Just reading about the mess in LA and Kovalchuk's recent lack of playing time. Curious if you guys think he might be worth a shot if LA retained some of his salary and he agreed to be traded (has a full no trade)? Our PP could use his shot, but he's 35. I have not seen him play since returning to the NHL, but I wonder if Trotz could work his magic with him. What would we give up for him? Just spitballin.

Yes he was terrific in the KHL and heard he was going to score 30 this year.

He can score, but his age, cap hit and foot speed are concerning. If the Islanders offer to take him, they should do so in the belief that they’re doing LA a favour and send a poopty contract of lesser cap back.

So Clutterbuck and a 2nd.

Looks like Jan Kovar is getting a spin at Bruins practice. Kevan Miller (larynx, out 5 weeks) is not.

Power play units the same as Monday:

Leddy-Bailey-Nelson-Lee-Eberle

Boychuk-Pulock-Barzal-Beau-Clutterbuck

I'd like to see Barzal back with Eberle, either on a line or at least on the power play. They've almost always had good chemistry on the ice.

I think both are defensive liabilities and Trotz is going to keep them apart. But I also hate those PP units. I don't understand the purpose of trying to force Leddy to be something he's not.

I wonder if we get Jaro or if they go with Rask. Halak played a night or two ago.

I agree.

I would rather stack 1 PP unit with the best 5 offensive guys instead of having 2 shatty PP units.

The Barzal, Leddy, Bailey, Ebs, Lee unit had crisp entries and moved the puck very well they just hit a wall as far as scoring but I would go back to them and give them the majority of the 2:00 PP time. Trotz did that with the Caps and I hope he goes back and does it with these 5 guys.

Exactly. Let Bailey and Barzal play the half-wall and tee up one-timers for Pulock all night. Have Lee in front and either Nelson or Eberle as the bumper in the high slot.

I don't like spreading the talent. Load up one unit and you can even let Barzal double shift and play with the 2nd unit for all I care.

Calvin Pickard (PHI) on waivers

Not important, but I'd love to scoop him for the Soundtigers and finally kick Chris Gibson to the curb. He stinks. 3.47GAA and 40 goals allowed in 13 starts.

I haven't been impressed with Ryan's shot as far as getting it off and hitting the net lately. I would rather it be Leddy. Better on entries and they can't key on Barzal. Just my opinion but I would like to see Ebs at the diamond position like Wilson ( Oshie's usual spot ) was in the other night. i believe that unit has enough talent to be very good.

Agree on Barzal playing the full 2 Mins.

That's completely fair, but I'm of the opinion that there is no "right" option at the moment and if we are going to try and force a square peg into a round hole I'd rather it be the young guy who's game is still pliable and can learn/benefit from a vote of confidence. I don't see Leddy morphing into some sort of talented PP QB at nearly 28 years old.

I think having Casey, MM and Cal back together will help a great deal. Flippy, Komorov and Noosemuckle have been good and the 4th will give them 4 solid lines imho.

Stated the same thing two pages ago separating the talent isn’t working. Go for it with the one at this point. Also please get Clutterbuck off the pp😂

Trotz wants to give power play another crack before making any changes. “Let’s give it sort of a retightening and see if we can get it back on track.” #Isles

Fair point but, I think Leddy dishes the puck quickly and well which is what you want imho. His entries are important as well. Todays PP's typically score from the Half wall trigger position after a quick lateral pass or in front from a rebound. The days of the let it rip from the point are over imho. to many teams block the shots. More than not a quick wrister that gets through to the net is just as effective as the booming slap shot honestly.

Really at this point everyone is right as far as personal suggestions because these 2 units as constructed are not getting it done. That said if they get 1 goal and the flood gates may open. What do we know

I hope he has the same mentality about Pelech/calling up Toews. Pelech has to be another bonehead-move away from playing himself right out of this lineup.

Question, why send him down. The leagues better GM have had 3 goalies on the roster with incredible success?

That is ultimately the only answer.

I'd even try Barzal on the point and Pulock lined up on the half-wall in the OV spot waiting for the one-timers there. Barzal may not be familiar with the intricacies of playing the point, but he's got the speed to make up for any flubs. He can catch just about anyone in the league. I really think need to utilize that bumper spot that WSH uses Wilson for. Even if it doesn't directly net them goals, it keeps the PK's heads and eyes moving and will open up other opportunities up high or down low.

Yeah, that too. I'd try pretty much anyone but Clutterbuck. I'd say they should throw Filppula out there, but my guess is they don't want to drive him into the ground because he plays a lot of PK minutes too.

I don't have a great understanding of how good or bad Toews is on the defensive/transition side of things, but I can't imagine that he's worse than Pelech.

Not necessarily against it, but his NHL numbers haven't been all that great. Granted, Philly is a tire-fire this year and he only played one NHL game last year...but even with 50 games in COL two seasons ago he wasn't particularly great. I'd be happy to send him to BPT to bolster the net, but if they wanted to give him a look in the NHL I can't say I'd be totally against it.

Barzal could play anywhere as far as I'm concerned with the man advantage. Thats where his passing, play making and skating abilities have the room to create the most. Teams have keyed on him as far as the entries since Leddy and him have been separated and he hasn't been as effective.

I think the half wall is the spot for him as there are more options for him as far as passing. But again at this point you try anything.
