As long as it was upheld. (frank) that POS. It's not like he's going to stop - ever.

Well now Wilson can appeal to an independent arbitrator.

I honestly would prefer that he serves all 20 games and then has an independent arbitrator lower the number of games he was supposed to be suspended. It would be a lot funnier that way.

Mainly the NHLPA. Victim-blaming is a bad look. They literally said that Sundqvist put his head on a "silver platter" by dipping his shoulder. That's absolutely (frank)ing astounding.

I also find it hilarious that Wilson's own GM even said that he had "other options" than running Sundqivst.

- eichiefs9

Yeah, that's sort of the NHLPA's job, to stick up for its players that are being suspended. They're stuck between a rock and hard place, because they should also be looking out for their injured players.

The GM's comments were astoundingly dumb.

Yeah, I mean Oskar Sundqvist is also an NHLPA member, so that's a pretty awful look for them blaming him for the incident. I'd be pretty livid if I were him.

I don't think the GM's comments were dumb at all, he's right. Wilson did have other options (mainly: not taking someone's head off at full speed in a meaningless preseason game). It's just hilarious to me that Wilson appealed and his own GM admitted that it was a shit play, more or less.

Here you go, upstate...the Toews article from Gross. It's nothing that interesting.

There seems to be an easy and ready solution to the Islanders’ lack of production from their back end. Devon Toews did enough in training camp to warrant remaining with the big club, and he’s playing well enough with Bridgeport (AHL) to deserve a call-up.

But, of course, the roster presents some complications. Otherwise, the 24-year-old, who is still waiting to make his NHL debut after being selected in the fourth round in 2014, wouldn’t have been among the Islanders’ final preseason roster cuts.

The Islanders (3-4-1) lost their second straight when they could not hold a two-goal lead in the third period and fell to the Panthers, 3-2, in overtime on Wednesday night at Barclays Center. The Islanders, off from practice on Thursday, open a three-game road trip at Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon.

Toews has a goal and five assists in seven AHL games this season, his first regular-season action since just after Christmas as he required season-ending shoulder surgery in January. His goal came in the Sound Tigers’ last game, a 4-3 shootout loss to Lehigh Valley on Sunday.

He has overcome a slow start to his AHL season that can be chalked up to his long, injury-induced layoff. Now, Toews is playing both on the power play and the penalty kill, and he dressed for all three of Bridgeport’s weekend games.

His six points for the Sound Tigers are more than six of the Islanders’ seven defensemen combined.

Scott Mayfield has a goal and four assists in six games. But Nick Leddy and Thomas Hickey each are without a point in eight games, Adam Pelech is without a point in seven games, Ryan Pulock and Johnny Boychuk each have one assist in eight games and Luca Sbisa has one assist in four games.

“Yeah, we’ll look at the pairs,” Islanders coach Barry Trotz said after Wednesday’s loss. “Obviously, we had some turnovers that cost us some penalties. We’ve just got to manage the puck.”

Toews’ forte is his offensive game and the organization is still working with him to improve his play away from the puck, particularly in being physical enough in his defensive efforts.

But his stickhandling, skating and passing ability would go a long way to helping the Islanders get the puck out of their zone more efficiently.

The real question is how to fit the left-shooting Toews, in the first season of a two-year, one-way, $1.4-million deal, onto the roster.

It makes no sense for him to join the Islanders only to be a healthy scratch. So either Pelech or Hickey, both lefties, would have to come out because even as the left-shooting Leddy struggles, he can still play top-pair minutes. Plus, the left-shooting Sbisa signed a one-year, $1.5-million deal after coming to training camp on a professional tryout offer and the organization is high on his veteran leadership.

There’s more than a decent shot Pelech or Sbisa would be claimed on waivers if the Islanders wanted to send them to Bridgeport.

But sooner, rather than later, the Islanders need to give Toews his chance.

Thanks for the post, I guess they shouldnt have signed crap ass sbisa as hes just another obstacle and he sucks

It would be even funnier if the arbitrator gave him a lifetime suspension.

Seem pretty dumb. Doesn't the team still have to pay into some sort of player's fund, even if there's a suspension? Assuming Wilson is useful to the team, why wouldn't you want to protect him and minimize the suspension?

Wilson fines get paid into the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund, I don't believe the team has to pay any fines.

I assume there's a litany of lawyers present at these hearings and everyone is properly deposed...so I guess McLellan didn't want to lie under oath. Kinda hard to say that Wilson had absolutely no other recourse than smashing into Sundqvist's head with his shoulder and convince anyone you're not lying.

I'm a big Wilson fan, but that one was gross. He easily could of moved a foot over and still probably launched him into the cheap seats on a completely legal check.

Nah, there's ways to duck around those sorts of opinion questions....

"When I look at it in slow motion, it appears he had other options. But in real time, I'm not so sure."

Not an outright lie, but not an outright admission either.

Im sure you saw this

593 players have logged at least 40 minutes 5v5 this season.

Leo Komarov ranks 593rd in Corsi For %

Valtteri Filppula is 586th.

Somebody told me Flipulla was great on here and some other guy told me Komarov is going to be a fan favorite.

Yeah because nobody in their right mind thought for a second that any of these signings or trades were good. That guy is such a self absorbed moron he’ll probably claim he knew unlike the fodder around him.

BD was right so far with these signings. I think if this is an evaluation year, Lou needed to make sure to get players on one year deals. I've stated many times I rather have Quine or Price on a one year deal than Leo for 4. See if Barry can get anything from players on one year deals.

BD? Don’t you mean the entire world besides three guys on this thread?

I mean I don’t get why everyone is so angry? This should have been expected we have our fourth line for the last four years as our third and we created a worse fourth line. What was anyone expecting the next Vegas? Well I guess some where let me rephrase that what was anyone realistically expecting? Trotz is obviously a great coach but nobody is doing anything with this line up. I’m happy we got Trotz other than that I’m not getting to caught up in this season.

Didn’t see last game but Filppula has been more than efficient and a pleasant surprise with 4 goals, 2 assists and plus 3 in 8 games.

I honestly don’t think he’s been bad I haven’t looked at his fancy stats but I was expecting worse. Besides him being incredibly slow I have no issue with him Komarov is Andrew Ladd without a shot though for the life of me can’t understand what that line is doing when they’re out there most of the time. 😂

The season is young but I had no expectations other than what we’re witnessing at this point.

Ladd needs to get off Bazals line already. Done with that.
For me Komarov has done a good job on the PK which needed help as we all knew.
