Left him and limbo and leave the Leafs more or less no choice to trade Nylander in the process while saving a million and a half of cap space.

after seeing that game, I don't know where the greiss in carolina came from but the one from last year replaced him after game one and is solidly in position to stink it up again this year.

If lehner can't take the job they're screwed.

- Isles_since_6

Just cannot understand Greiss. He can look so good and then so bad. I think Lehner should get a run.

Isles hit 2 or 3 posts, greiss was 💩 again gave up a 70 foot wrist shot. They played a solid first gibson was good too. The goal called back should have been he had the puck frozen and you cant push any part of the goalie into the net to score anyhow. Isles fans think it was a bad call but clutterbuck pushed his leg and that allowed the puck to go in. It was a much better effort than last game they were skating and hitting more, bailey and ladd missed wide open nets. Is it me or is johnston better than martin or at least equal? Could have just kept him and left martin in limbo
- Upstate_isles

Martin is a great guy but it made no sense bring him back. Johnston is younger, cheaper, and is better. The system will be much better this year along with the effort but the talent is just not there.

State's Evidence: Exhibit A-1 as to why Cal Clutterbuck belongs nowhere but on a fourth line and is overpaid by a lot

I had already turned the game off by this point and didn't catch this until just now

Ok this is the same team from last year. Griess gave up a real bad goal and that ended the islanders. Most of the shots were to the outside. No one was in front of the net. Time for some changes. With the personnel we have it’s not going to work. I guess snows team was not good at all with or without Tavares

This season (or a portion of it) is about evaluation of talent. Who will fit into what Lou and Trotz want moving forward. I don't think they truly expect much from this particular group other then establishing the systems and changing locker room culture. After 12 years of Snowjob and Co., it will take time to right ship.

True I can see a ton of changes by the end of the year. I honestly I can see a whole new team next year. It’s just frustrating watching this year in and year out.

This roster needs big changes. This is still Garth's team. Sadly it will take time.

This team has no natural shooters just play makers. It’s all passing on this team. So many oppurtunities to shoot in good areas and they opted to pass. Trotz must be going nuts watching this

This team will not take the next step until they get themselves a 1A-type goaltender. We're all hoping Sorokin is that guy but there's a lot risk there because there's no guarantee that he'll come over and, even if he does, there's no guarantee he's a stud.

In the meantime, they'll have to find a way to improve the rest of the roster. I'm really starting to come around on the idea of trading Leddy. With at least three guys in the AHL starting to knock down the door for NHL spots and Dobson/Wilde on the way, they're going to have to find a way to create some space. Boychuk is going nowhere and Hickey probably won't be very highly sought-after, even if his contract isn't terrible. Pulock shouldn't go anywhere, so that leaves only 2 open spots on the blueline.

isles dominated the game everywhere except the score board which is only thing that matters. No question Gibson was awesome but we also made it pretty easy for him was there was never anyone there to bang in a rebound. 2 of first goals by Ducks were just that. Our Dman left kesler untouched.

I think isles will go on a hot streak and also take under consideration this is a brutal schedule to start the season.

If Badd scores to start game, its totally different game. He sucks.

Also Only islanders can be victim of a whistle reversal call. yes i agree the ref should have blown whistle but he didnt. since when can a call like that be overturns. if JT scores that goal for Leafs does it get reversed?

why wouldnt her report to Bridgeport. Did he think his preseason play made him worthy of a starting spot on roster?

I (and others) actually agree with cpt on this point; i.e., Martin and his cap hit should have been left on the Leafs. Johnston performs the same role and, as ses says, is younger, better and cheaper.

My guess is that, since the AHL limits how many veterans (yes, he was considered one under the AHL's rules) can play (only 5 can dress per game), he was worried about playing time.

My assumption is that Kovar wanted his release assuming there would be a line of NHL teams waiting with contracts. That obviously didn't happen.

No question chief this team needs a long term 1A in goal. I think it also makes sense to at least listen to offers for Leddy. I'd love to see a top 4 of Leddy and Pulock and Toews and Aho sometime this year.
