Certainly looks like he stands out. He and Dobson will be welcomed additions down the road.

If he keeps trending the right way he could be an absolute steal in the second round

It appears he already is a steal. I just hope he can play a heavy game like Strait, or a steady game like Seidenberg. Perhaps his skating will emulate Mayfield as well lol

Hopefully Lou keeping those picks really pays off. Isles really need to find a 2C in the draft.

I don't think they're gonna wait that long for a 2c If Nelson isn't the guy they want, or isn't bringing what they want to the table, I can see them bringing something in via trade.

Unless they end up with Jack Hughes, there won't be an NHL-ready center in this draft...although, and it's still too early to say this, it's shaping up to be a better-than-average draft year.

I still think, if they can't get it together this season, the Isles should look to give the Blues some cap-relief by trading for Brayden Schenn. He'd be a perfect fit and the Blues are right up against the cap.

I'm still thinking we'll see a trade in the next couple months. Think Lou & Barry want to get their guys in there.

Really hard to trade for a 2C.

If they miss on Hughes, it may be tough to find a 2C that is NHL ready. Trading for a 2C could be tough as well. Teams will ask for Wahlstrom or Dobson I'm sure.

Another option is Duchene, he'll be a free agent this offseason. By the looks of things, he seems like he's going to test it, too.

I don't know, I don't see them going big on a 2C unless the team's really putting something special together this season and Nelson completely flames out. If Nelson's holding his own and the team's competitive, I think they'll do something on D rather than at forward...and probably not some blockbuster trade, but maybe something understated to bring in a competent d-man who can settle things down in the Isles zone and, most importantly, actually get the puck across the blue line when necessary.

If they fall out of playoff contention early, I think we'll see them getting rid of what they can and collecting assets so they can add later, rather than trying to add a bunch of pieces immediately to salvage the season.

We've guessed here pretty much all offseason that this year, especially the first half of it, will be about evaluating what's here more than anything, and I don't think that's changed after four games.

Have to agree UIF. I do not see any sort of big trade this year. Wonder if we see Lee signed soon and Eberle traded later? I would love to get a look at both Toews and Aho on D.

Not sure if waiting an additional 3 or 4 years for someone to develop is the plan. At least I hope it isn’t 😂

New rule players get only one year after being drafted before they must be in the NHL.

So I have heard that Ho Sang is dealing with an injury. Not sure how true that is but there's that...

I am stiff furious that Toews is not on this team. He can fly and is 24 years old. He has more than served his time in the AHL and is MORE than ready. If I was him I would be furious I was back in B-port. It's complete horse poop.

As far as trading for a 2c there are always deals to be made if you are inclined. Yes Duchene is an option. So is Nylander for the right players.

Nylander will cost a small fortune and the Leafs aren't gonna trade him anyway. And if, by chance, they do then it probably wouldn't be in the Eastern Conference.

Duchene is going to be a highly sought-after deadline acquisition. Between that and the fact that OTT shot themselves in the foot with their 1st round pick this year...they're going to be asking top dollar for him. I wouldn't be averse to signing him in the offseason, though.

Barzal and Duchene would be a nice 1C and 2C. I thought Nylander was a wing? I agree if traded it will probably be out West.

If we are not going to play our high level prospects anyway why not trade them for a player? If Toews at 24 can't make this team then we might as well trade Bellows, Ho Sang, Dobson, etc. If we are constantly going to play PTO guys than trade all our high level prospects for 1 guy who they will play.

It made no sense to sign Sbisa when you have guys like Pelech and Mayfield on 4 year deals. Toews should have made this team. I'm willing to give Lou and Trotz a little time but Toews should be up sooner rather than later.

We are four games into the season, relax. Guys will get their shot.

Toews is not a "high-level" prospect and Bellows has played four pro games. This team is not going anywhere with a goaltending duo of Greiss/Lehner, this is a total evaluation year for nearly the entire roster.

I don't disagree that Toews should be here, but we have plenty of time. Boychuk will go through his annual six week IR stint and he'll get a look.

I think Toews will be up here soon. Trotz has already tried a few different things with what he has (scratching Sbisa, breaking up Leddy-Boychuk, putting them back together, and then shuffling everybody last game). If the D struggles through this West Coast swing, I think the next step would be to get the guy who looked more than ready in camp in there to see if he can add something the other guys don't have.

I still think putting him with Boychuk would make for a solid pair...Toews' speed and positioning will allow Boychuk to narrow his focus a bit and Boychuk's veteran presence will help settle Toews down.

Leddy-Pulock
Toews-Boychuk
Pelech/Hickey-Mayfield

are the pairs I want to see for a few games.

These should have been the parings to start the season. You have Toews, Wotherspoon, Aho. Made no sense at all to sign Sbisa.
