Thankfully no one has to worry about Wilson for a while - that POS.

I wasn't implying that Barzal should change - I'm not sure there is much else he can do to protect himself. It's only be three games but clearly teams are trying to lay big hits on him. It's only a matter of time before someone connects. After that we can only hope at least one Islander beats the every lovin' shat out of the guy that threw the hit.

This is what I absolutely loathe about today's NHL. If the hits clean, it should serve as a lesson to Barzal. Not a reason to turn the game into a circus chasing the guy that crushed him (cleanly) all over the ice trying to get retribution, despite that guy doing nothing wrong.

Now an illegal hit, I'm all for it. But today's NHL: big clean hit = stupid staged fight between neither the hitter or the hit-ee. It's terrible.

The Skinny
Captain Anders Lee scored the only goal the Isles would need on a power play, he passed Josh Bailey as the leading goal scorer among all active Islanders (126-125). Lee has scored 75 goals since 11/23/2016, matching Alex Ovechkin for the most in the NHL in that stretch. He has scored 25 power play goals in that stretch; only Ovechkin (32) has more

He is going to get his bell rung at some point. Regardless of how shifty he is. If gets clocked cleanly, then so be it. My concern lies with goons like Wilson running him late or trying to put him through the boards with a hit from behind.

Well yeah, a dirty hit means I hope whoever did it gets their head taken off. But I'm talking only about the big clean hits that lead to a game-interrupting brawl three seconds later. I can't stand it.

Yea i hate that too like when clutterbuck smoked the guy on rangers in preseason, i forget who. Also all star players are targeted always have been its not getting burned while trying to hit them that keeps players honest. They said it last night barzal is challanging 1v1 more and that makes him more dynamic as to which way he can beat you

I never liked staged fights. I don't see the purpose. Also why would anyone fight another goon for something his teammate did. Go after the guy that started it.

I fully expect someone to get frustrated playing against Barzal and try to take his head off.

Garth should quit and not get another dime from this team after he never bothered to hire a decent coach in years. Garth just looks worse and worse if that's even possible with every good Isles performance. These are mostly Garth players.

I know what you're sayin'. Just because your teammate got wrecked by a good, clean hit because his head was down is no reason to start a line brawl.

I disagree... I don't care if it's clean or not if someone hits your star in a manner which is dangerous than you need to make a statement that it's not ok. Martin yelling at Nashville to cut the sht after the whistle does a lot for a team. Even that slow turd Leo making a statement after a hit in last game to grab and talk to guy does a lot.

When Teammates see other guys sticking up for them and letting the world know that this is not a team that will allow you to take runs at their players it makes the team a lot better. Even Mayfield's penalty yesterday. Kane was trying to rattle Lehner by running into him "inadvertently" of course... Mayfield sent him flying.. Nope.

We all know that Snow managed with his ego. He wasn't going to admit he was wrong or didn't do the right thing because his ego wouldn't allow it. Something as simple as bringing Halak back from the A to make a playoff push he couldn't do because of it. He always felt he was the smartest one in the room. No matter how many dumb decisions he made.

Anytime someone touched Bossy he got a quick meeting with Gillies. That is how Clark ended up on that top line. It's been that way forever and it will continue to be that way.

Typically speaking, clean hits aren't dangerous. Don't skate with your head down. Know who's on the ice. Yes there have been some big, clean hits that have knocked guys out, but those are the rarities. Guys like Wilson & Gudas are the ones that throw, cheap, dirty, late hits that injure people.

It's no different than hitting a batter because he cranked a HR off you in his prior AB. Hitting is part of the game and if you can't deal with someone getting hit then I'm not sure hockey is the right sport to watch.

You can certainly go try and find the guy that hit him and throw a big check of your own, but stopping the entire game to punch him because he didn't break the rules is stupid.

Even with Gillies, Bossy still took plenty of punishment. It does not stop star players from getting hit. I'd rather not have the staged fights either. Clean hitting is part of the game and you cannot let star players do whatever they want and give them a free pass.

Team is really buying in to the new system. Very few high % opportunities for a REally really good Sharks team. Only saw 1 odd man rush (Pelech bad pinch), and only 1 guy left alone in front for a shot.. (again Pelech). I know you don't like to give up that many shots but if they are all coming from the perimeter and our guys are not letting secondary scoring chances I like it a lot...

Energy line was great, First 2 lines were solid, 4th line was terrible. The fact that Butch kept talking about how good they are defensively was comical. Yeah they are great at it b/c they can not get it out of their zone. only line that had extended time in d-zone..every shift.

I thought Mayfield was playing great before the goal. He is a much better option than Sbisa at this point.

Get Leddy off the first PP unit and put Pulock in it.

I want Toews on this team.

- niteislander

Why ? That unit is firing on all cylinders and you want to change it up? Makes no sense at all. Besides Leddy also has some speed to cover for the 4th forward out there playing the point on the PP

If a guy hits Barzal to get him off the puck.. no big deal. If Burns had of caught him and burried him into boards.. game over. Just like the "clean hit" by Gudbranson on the kid who was playing his first shift in the NHL. He did not have the puck yet, but it was on the way. He "didn't have his head up" ... blah blah blah. You have a guy that is 6'5" 245 lbs crushing a smaller player. He burried him in the head with his shoulder on a "clean hit". Hamonic went after him immediately.... That was probably not a wise decision by Hamonic but it was the right one. You have to let other teams know if they are going to take RUNS at your skilled guys they are going to have to answer for it. that is hockey...

and yes Bossy still took a beating. Especially in front of the net which is why his career was only 10 years, but guys knew when they went after him Clark was coming.

The whole hitting/fighting as a deterrent thing is so stupid. It hasn't even been a relevant practice in probably 15 years and, even when it was, I don't think it actually deterred anything.

What actually happens is "Marchand hits Barzal, Martin fights Backes" and that doesn't exactly inspire much hope that Marchand has been deterred from ever doing it again in the future.

I like Pulock's shot better and it's been Barzal who has been clicking on both PP units.

Barzal has been targeted for his entire Jr and Pro career. Every team he faced tried to hit him hard and as much as they can. If He see a check coming he knows how to deal with it, its not his first rodeo.
Its the check you don't see coming that will hurt you. Hopefully that doesn't happen.

I am sure if someone takes liberties with Barzal there's enough grit on this Islander team to deal with it and send a message thats not acceptable without repercussions.
