Our top 4 D-man by the end of this season will be Leddy, Pulock, Toews, and Boychuk. Boychuk will end up in bottom 2 pairing if he doesn't play better and either Hickey, Pelech, or Mayfield will move up if they play well enough.

Luca Sbisa was a first round pick in 2008 by the Flyers. He is only 28 years old and last year was by far his best in the NHL. If any of you watched Vegas in the playoffs you had to See Sbisa play. While he was not a top D-man on Vegas he was in there for over 15 minutes a game. He was very solid in every series. Why are we just assuming everyone the Islander's sign sucks? If the Rangers signed Sbisa the same people who hate this would be btching that we should have signed him... he is certainly not friggin Seidenberg or Strait. He will be a bottom pairing unless his play dictates he should be more than that on Isles.

I did like a proud dad finally seeing his kid put it all together. Bailey going to surprise you all for 2nd season in a row.

For me its Nelson, Clutter and Cizikas that have something to prove this year. Lee was a worry for me before preseason without JT but he seems just fine doing his Lee Thing. Maybe not 40 this year but 30+ would be nice.

I am certainly hoping you are right but the first time that Dolt does a backwards no look pass in his own zone to the other team I am out!!

Still early, but doesn't look like he's going to be getting bottom pairing minutes as of now:

What I meant was that I'm not starting off thinking he's a piece of trash or is going to suck. I don't think that either of them will be Vezina candidates by any stretch, but I don't think either will have a save % of .673. I think they'll do ok. Maybe playing with more defensive responsibility will help them as well.

I agree. Limiting the shots and high quality shots will certainly help.

this alone should tell you this is a different Regime. We are a week away from the start of the season and they are already sending a big message to Boychuk. next time you stop at the Blue line for no reason opening up the front of the net for the opponent u are toast. He and Leddy were a fken abomination last year. both of them had ZERO structure. the 2 idiots would be in the same corner, both would stop at blue line. Pinch in neutral zone without the puck. It was the dumbest sht I have ever seen by an NHL team.

I agree with you man. In fact, Sbisa was one of big piece in trade for Chris Pronger.
Sbisa is a cheap 1 year deal. If he plays well he stay in lineup. he provides insurance for Boychuk that seems to be deteriorating more and more each year.
Defense will be required to play Defense first, and Leddy and Pulock supply the offense. No more wild wild west -40 ratings under Dougie Fresh.

Pelech top pairing is surprising. While he is good dman, i havent seen him establish himself as a must have guy in lineup.

There really shouldn't be any hate for Boychuk. He's a 34 year old (35 in Jan.) defenseman that has played a physical game his entire career. It's not surprising that his body and game are breaking down. The anger should be directed at Garth Snow, who signed him to a contract knowing that the first half of the deal would have to justify the second half. Everybody should have known that the back-end of 55's deal was going to look bad once he started declining.

Unfortunately, and unsurprisingly, Garth didn't even come close to justifying the first half of that deal. He failed to build a team that was competitive enough to make Boychuk's last few good years worth the rest of the term of that deal.

The best case scenario with Sbisa would be for him to have a strong year and get flipped for something like a 3rd round pick at the deadline. Unless he somehow manages to post some pretty solid offensive production, without being a major defensive liability, I don't think he'll net us anything better than a 3rd-ish rounder.

Yeah, which isn't really the greatest approach for a rebuilding team. Some veterans are good, but there's really no reason to force a talent-less veteran-laden lineup out on the ice every single night.

if you go to isles website. Lou and Trotz say - The best players spend time in Minors and learn the pro game. No Pro has suffered being in minors too long vs player that is brought up to pros too early. Ive argued this with Bailey. If he spent 2-4 years in minors i think noone complaining right now.

Other great players in other organizations that developed first in minors include Zettenberg, Datsyuk and Jonathan Toews.

all the best organization develop their players - SJ, Det, Tampa.

I feel like Wotherspoon and Quinnvelle going to be good future dman for us. Bellows will fill the void if we lose Lee to Free Agency. B/c make no mistake, Lou will not wait for these guys to test Free Agency

They probably will and the truth is that they're going to suck a mile of ass no matter if it's vets or younger kids in the lineup.

To be clear, I'm not trying to make a mountain out of a molehill here (just making a point)....but you'd think they know that they play in, arguably, the best division in hockey and that the chances of them having a successful season are slim-to-none...so why not at least try giving Bellows a few games out of the gate? Same with Ho-Sang...those are both waiver-exempt players and I see no reason they shouldn't at least be given a chance to stick. No harm in that. If they aren't good enough to be everyday players then they can be sent back to BPT without issue.

I'm not upset that Bellows was sent to BPT, but I do think it's kinda stupid that after a strong camp he wasn't at least given a handful of games. I'd say a third line of Bellows-Kovar/Filppula-Ho Sang sure looks better than the Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck line, who would be far better suited as the fourth line. The Kuhnhackl-Filppula-Komarov is going to be utterly putrid.
