I just don't believe as much has changed as most people believe. Maybe I'm wrong but, outside of landing Trotz, Lou really hasn't done anything positive. I'm still not ready to drink the Kool-Aid just yet.

Maybe Lou deserves more then a couple of months don't you think? He took over the team a few weeks before the draft for christ sakes. I trust Lou a lot more then anybody the Isles have hired since Torrey and I trust him a lot more then any of you clowns Can the guy get a few years before calling him washed up? I think he knows just a little more then Isles twitter

Exactly! Thank you.

And I wouldn't be surprised if Seidenberg got a contract either. So far, outside of Lou & Trotz coming in, it's all been the same. The same poopty 3rd & 4th line plugs getting signed. The same 7th & 8th D-men getting signed. I hope I'm wrong and that things change once the season starts. I hope Lou makes a couple moves to bring in better talent. And I hope Trotz benches or punishes vets when they screw up.

I get it trust me I do but when teams suffer injuries especially on D guys who really shouldn't be playing are going to log minutes that's what happens and it happens to every team not just the Isles. They are 7th and 8th defensemen for a reason like I said because they just aren't very good. Somebody has to play that role and unless a prospect is ready which at this time I don't think the isles have anybody then its gonna be a shatty player like Sbisa or Seidenberg etc etc
- Vukota

Well, for one, we always talk about these guys like they're never going to play except when there are injuries. That's not really how it works. They rotate in; they just log fewer minutes than the others over time. If these guys are on the roster, believe me, we'll be seeing plenty of them, injuries or not.

I get protecting the younger guys, but how does a player like Aho not benefit from being in Bridgeport getting top minutes when the team's healthy, and then being called up in the event of an injury and mixing in some NHL games with his AHL experience until the D's healthy again? He doesn't get that with an unsigned dogpoop vet getting more minutes when there's an injury. He just gets blocked, which was my poorly stated original point. Sbisa as an 8th d-man offers nothing when the team's healthy, and blocks a call-up who could use the experience when there's an injury.

Sbisa is good 7-8 dman. As somone suggested. he did play better than Boychuk and Pelech in preseason thus far.

I like what i saw from Quenville (sp) and Wotherspoon. I think those guys could get one first call up if we get any injuries on defense. they perhaps could of move past Aho in depth chart.

Bailey will do what he always does to you all. Prove everyone wrong if we get two 30G goals in Beau, Barzal and Bailey racks up all the assists thats one hell of a line . If we can convince Bailey to shoot more he might get 20+ himself.

Bailey had a beautiful one timer PP goal and could of had perhaps another. (toews was just a bit off on the pass 2-3 times for set up in IslesRags game)

I think Ladd is done and willl be on and off IR all year.

NELSON is the one im not convinced is the guy. Kiss him goodbye a month in if he doing nothing at the 2C spot.

Of course he gets more than a few months. I don't have any issues with Lou and am hopeful he'll get this thing turned around. The thing about it is the signings he's made are eerily reminiscent of Snow-type signings. Sidewalk trash and plugs that no one else wants. I'm still hopeful that after a while this will be an organization that high level UFA's want to play for. However, since we've been beaten over the head with bullshit signings, sub-mediocre GM's and coaches for years and years, it's hard to just turn the page to sunshine & lollipops. I'm still wary of this organization. Hopeful, yet wary.

Maybe, but what do we typically see? Some scrub (Seids) signed to be 7th or 8th playing 2nd or 3rd pairing minutes. Now, I'm hopeful with this regime that that will change. Hope in one hand, poop in the other. See which one fills up first.

not at all, but when its the same guys who question every facking move of anybody who ever makes a decision it becomes pretty obvious don't you think? At some point it has to register, no?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm certainly not questioning every move he's made. All I'm saying is that I don't necessarily believe that things are going to be as different as most people think and he really hasn't done much to this point to make me feel differently. I even admitted that it's entirely possible I'm wrong.

I'm expecting a dog shit season and I'm not expecting him to rectify anything overnight, but I don't think being skeptical is really that unfair given the circus of idiocy that has surrounded this team for literally almost the entirety of my life.

In fairness to those people, they've been right more than wrong over the years!

I'm not down on everything this year by any stretch, but I'm not going to nod along with everything like Lou is incapable of mistakes, either. Hell, he's the one who signed Martin to that four-year deal we were all laughing at when we were happy Snow let him walk.

All I'm saying is Lou is like 5% into his painting and people are already calling it garbage I mean c'mon can he finish the painting first?

I agree that the end result will likely be the same........or even a little worse than recent seasons. What I'm hoping for is a change in the culture. I expect less country club, and more lunch pail hockey. My guess is that it will take a couple of seasons at least before Lou can work in sufficient talent to go with the lunch pail guys to make some noise. But if I don't have to watch Bailey, Nelson and others coasting back on defense this season, then that will be a positive.

When the moves that Lou has made seem to fall right in line with the moves that Snowjob made, it's pretty easy to question, don'y you think? I've already said I hope it changes. I'm just not quite ready to jump on the train fully given the history of this club.

This is what I'm saying. I hope it does. I'm not down on Lou. I've just been burned by this organization before and I'm not ready to buy in fully until I start seeing that change. Most of us think this is going to be a losing season. That's fine as long as the culture starts to change and there's accountability FOR ALL PLAYERS. Not the kids paying for the sins of the vets like has been in the past.

I have no idea how to link it to this forum, but there is an NBC sports article on yahoo about the Islanders. The writer is kind of ripping Lou . It sounds like us. Adam Gretz is the writer.

https://www.yahoo.com/spo...-islanders-215143940.html

Maybe that did it.

im with you. Sbisa actually was decent. he definitely not a bad depth guy.
Im very happy to see Toews sticking around.

as for the line up. I was waiting for the comments wow, Bailey on first line again. I guess Lou and Trotz must not know what they doing.

I think thats a good opening night roster
. And as someone mentioned. If they winning its fine, if the not changes will be made immediately. Thats right Nelson - All eyes on you.

I thought Bellows had enough to make it but he has to be on top 2 lines and why he going back to bridge. he needs good set up guys around him and not sure how many noticed he was less visible in game vs rangers when put with less skilled linemates.

I think JHS just keeps getting outplayed by others each year. Beau beat him out for job and now seems Bellows leapfrogged him as well.

Re: the bolded comments:

1. Depth guys are great to have if you have a solid top 4. If your “depth guys” ARE part of your top four….you’re boned.
2. We clearly have different opinions on what is good and what is not.
