These 2 have no business to be in an ice rink, let alone on the team.

Agree. After seeing Pelech have a really bad game, I said I'd be cool if Sbisa got his spot. But then the next game I actually saw Sbisa play. I thought he was one of those local Long Island feel-good-story camp invites with the way he skated until they called his name

Eh...he stood out in the way motivated extras do. But I agree...if he is opening a few eyes out there, why would you need Gionta as another extra in addition to Sislo and the three full fourth lines already still in camp?
- UIF

Sislo is pretty good. As an AHL player. 2nd or 3rd liner. He'll get his points and doesn't take a shift off. He's 30 years old, so on the back 9 of his career.

Having not seen any of the pre-season games, I imagine he's like a pylon out there.

I do think it makes sense to give the vets a chance first with Barry coaching now. Bellows will not be hurt with some time in Bridge. Same for Aho.
- ses111

Yep. I'm fine with using the first however many games as an evaluation of what's already here -- who we have, who wants to be here, etc. If there's a surprise run for a playoff spot this year, it'll be because the vets buy in and support that first line. And, in the more likely event that the playoffs become out of reach early, then it's better to find out now which vets should stick around and which shouldn't.

I'd say awkward. To me, he looked like a player who still has to perfect his stride...except Sbisa's closer to retirement than learning new tricks...

Pretty much what Gross reported, but I like the added "more than I thought he would" show in Staple's Lou quote. It's nice to get a little more info about who's staying and who's going beyond a wire report and then three months of silence.

Lamoriello says he thought Bellows showed “more than I thought he would” and Ho-Sang was “excellent,” but neither did enough to beat out a veteran for a spot. “We have a lot of guys under contract. We need to see what we have with them first.”

I think it'll be more of an evaluation of real-season play. That way Lou knows who he wants/needs to trade and can start shopping them around. All he's seen is training camp and a few preseason games. The kids will be there and I'm fine with those that got sent down.

I agree UIF. Have to think Lou will not sit on his hands like Garth if things go bad. Vets will not be able to say they were not given a chance first.

Wait. What? Why is Lou speaking? Everyone knows that the GM doesn't talk to the media. What an idiot Lou is.

Gave gave more information than Snowballs just by accepting the job. I still can't believe what a douchebag he is. Showing up at that presser looking like a complete and utter slob. And then having the attitude like everyone should be grateful he's even in the room with them. You could tell just from that presser he thought there was no way he was losing his job. Idiot.

Exactly. I believe (well, hope, anyway!) Lou and Trotz won't tolerate it for too long if there's a vet being lazy and souring the atmosphere for this hard-work identity Trotz is trying to build. But they're not going to bury a guy in the AHL that they just signed in the offseason without giving him some regular season action, either.

With Trotz and his staff running the bench, their won't be guys NOT working their butts off. As long as I see that culture being established this season, along with a sound team wide defensive structure, this year will be a massive improvement from the last few years.

I don’t know this to be fact but i bet in order to get guys (vets) to sign here they were promised a regular shift. As a result they get the ice before any rookie.

That was an absolute disgrace. In fairness i don’t blame Snow for taking the job/money that Wang gave him. I blame Wang for completely mismanaging this franchise and allowing a guy to run the show that completely in over his head for his entire tenure. It was pretty obvious to me that Snow was overwhelmed and seeing as though he aged 40 years in his decade as GM he felt it too.

I think even that will take some time. I don't expect an overnight culture change. This organization's been adrift for a really long time and I'm not sure anyone can undo that in one training camp. I expect we'll see what a Trotz team looks like after the first round of players suffers some consequences for not buying in and their replacements are there long enough to know what's expected of them.

Sbisa is only 28 years old. I am not lobbying for him to make the team, but he certainly isn't as bad as Seidenberg or Gionta.
