I would think so. Tonight is way to important for him to go into it half arsed. He has to be able to make the moves knowing whether he has Tavares's salary or not. If Tavares holds up the process then hopefully Lou does what he has to do envisioning it's without Tavares. (frank) him at that point and move on. To much at stake.

I have a hard time believing they dont have something agreed upon at this point. Too much has been reported/rumored about a possible deal, with numbers too (10.3-10.75 per for 8 years). Smart money says he stays...

Schwein would move into Lee's basement.

Until Lee found out.

If he's envisioning life without JT, then I think he is forced to build for the future. I don't think even Lou could assemble enough talent to be a serious Cup competitor in the upcoming season without JT in the mix. That translates into holding onto his picks, not trading them.

Sounds like Carolina is inching closer to moving Jeff Skinner. 3 teams believed to be in the mix in the late stages of discussions.

Not a fan with the idea of trading for him. Whatever it costs it'll be to much. He's a high risk moderate reward kind of move IMO.

Here me out here on my conspiracy theory:

We get Skinner

We trade Lee for a top-3 defenseman

We re-sign Skinner, who is 2 years younger than Lee, at some point before next July

I think he could plug a bunch of holes and make the team competitive with a real coach. It would be monumental but getting a legit 2nd line center and hoping barzal continues to improve may be not as horrible a situation as it may sound.

Elliotte Friedman on Edmonton’s 630 CHED, on whether or not the Canadiens (already with the No. 3 overall draft pick) might offer Max Pacioretty to the Islanders (a team with the Nos. 11 and 12 picks) to get the No. 11 selection:

“Yeah, I think that’s a possibility,” allowed Friedman. “A couple of things there. I do think Montreal is trying to get a second first-rounder. They’ve got that one at 3 and then I think they’d love to get one where the Islanders are. Also, Montreal has 35 and 38 at the top of the second round, and I could see them offering both of those to get later into the first round. So I do think that’s what he wants to do.

“The one thing I haven’t been able to determine, and it’s going to be harder now with Lamoriello there, is how interested the Islanders are in Pacioretty. I’ve had people say that they are interested, I’ve had people say that they are not. So I think it’s kind of difficult to tell.

Scenario is more digestible just not huge on Skinner. I would rather package Lee and a 1st for a legit top two and sign kovalchuck for nothing. What's your thoughts on Dougie Hamilton? I'd take a stab at him.

I'm tryna figure out how this rumor has the isles moving a first for a guy they seemingly dont need? Great player, but on the list of isles needs, he't not in the top 3

Elliotte Friedman on Edmonton’s 630 CHED, on the notion of the Islanders trading for Max Pacioretty and Philipp Grubauer in their continued attempt to impress John Tavares and convince him to stay:

“I think if the Islanders really want to go for it, I wonder if they go after Panarin,” said Friedman. “I have a theory here. If I was Columbus, I’d go for it next year. Especially after seeing Washington climb the mountain this year. I think Columbus is really good. I think they’re a really good team… They were a crossbar away from going up 3-0. I think they’re really close. I think they’re really good.

“I think they have good fans too. I wonder, do you say to your fans: ‘Guys, we’re all in and we’re going for it next year and we’re keeping Panarin and we’re keeping Bobrovsky. If they walk they walk, but we want to take one more shot with this group.’ And then they’ll have cap room.

“Artemi Panarin says right now he doesn’t want to sign in Columbus – maybe that changes, maybe not. But If I’m in the New York area with a big Russian-speaking population, I’m taking a shot at it.

“Plus, they’re trying to get Tavares to sign, and that’s another reason I’m taking a shot at it. But I think if you’re the Islanders and you have your pick of the guys you want to go after, I think Panarin is first on that list and then you go into the Skinners, the Paciorettys, and the guys who are good players – but just not on his level.”

No clue, on the surface it seems dumb (Panarin too) but refer to my conspiracy theory post. Get a winger like Panarin/MaxPac/Skinner and then move Lee for a big-name defenseman. Doing it backwards (winger first, Lee-trade second) would probably eliminate the appearance of being desperate to get another top winger to other GM's. If they moved Lee first, you can bet some other GM would see what was going on and try and take advantage of it.

Again, purely the conspiracy theory rantings of a guy who's got one foot out the door of his office on a summer Friday.

Your theory makes sense, and i totally get the trading of Lee for a top Dman. But, if you're trading Lee, to me the replacement would be JVR, who would be a UFA signing, and is a similar style to Lee. I find it hard to digest the isles would give up a first for a player, when they can sign someone and use that pick elswhere, to address a much greater need. Who knows..
