Nothing would shock me with this team chief. Still do not see how Lou did not hold firm on one year for Leo? Did he really have many more options?
- ses111

How many teams were knocking on Johnston’s door for him to get four years? Hickey? The most sensible contract anyone was signed to was Kovar who is as big as a coin flip as any contract signed this year so what am I really saying by calling it sensible?

Sounds strange but it’s the Islanders so you never know. Garth Snow the gift that keeps on giving.

I used to think things were maybe heading in a logical direction that made sense, now I just assume everything is done ass-backwards.

I'd love to just be able to blame Garth, but Lou has given out some baffling contracts over the years.

I still feel good about this team going forward despite some of these lousy contracts. I think Barry will be a big improvement.

Maybe. I don't. I've been duped on the "we have good prospects/cap space/etc..." front before and they gotta show me something to make me believe, because the faith is gone.

Coaching staff HUGE improvements. On ice personel beyond questionable moves so far. If you signed them for one maybe even two years you could wrap your head around it and say well we’re tanking. When you trade for Martin who has three years left and sign hickey for another four along with Komorav you begin to wonder what the (frank) is going on? We’re stuck with these guys for better or worse when you would hope we need every dollar of cap space in three or four years when you would hope we’re competitive. Not only stuck with them but also Clutterbuck, Cizikas, Ladd, Pelech, and Mayfield from Snow. That is a shat ton of wasted space.

Yeah surprised there aren’t more people with this exact sentiment. When is enough enough? Have to draw the line somewhere we’ve been rebuilding for thirteen (frank)ing years. Lou is telling the world we have a ton of talent and don’t need a rebuild then he signs what he does. Still doesn’t make sense I’ll give the guy the benefit of the doubt till the puck drops but I’m not liking what I’ve seen so far. Losing Tavares though big is not enough of a reason to rollover imo which to me is exactly what we’re doing. Sends the wrong message as far as I’m concerned I’m sick of hearing the need to evaluate bullshat. You know what these players can do. I know what they can do as a fan. Shat I know what the Leafs players are all capable of as well as just about every nhl team and I’m no exec. There’s always an excuse for losing and to keep losing. to me losing is the exact thing this team needs to distance itself from like it’s the (frank)ing Black Plague. Boohoo Tavares left so what go out and add real depth not fringe nhl players. The guy was a defensive mess. Spread 2nd line scoring through the team add a couple middle tier players and a top four. Play a defense first system and build around Barzal. Wtf does signing hickey, martin, and Johnston do? Komorav who everything points to is in decline for four years with a full ntc/Nmc? Filppula who literally made every player around him worse for the last two years. Hickey nothing needs to be said. I literally hate what I’ve seen so far.

You think of Lou as this tough and no nonsense guy and then he gives out some of these lousy contracts. Hard to wrap your head around it. I mentioned I would have rather brought Prince and Quine back for a year under Barry instead of giving players like Leo 4 years. You sit on the Cap space this year and see what Barry can do and spend more next offseason.

I can understand this but I think Lou and Barry will get more leeway after all the winning they have done and even when they make questionable moves. Istill call out these lousy signings but I still want to remain somewhat positive about the team.

Just think when we have to sign Barzal and Pulock we’ll have Komorav, Martin, Johnston, Clutterbuck, Cizikas, and Ladd almost taking up 20 million in cap space. I wonder where all the “who cares we have tons of cap space” posters will disappear to when that time comes? They’ll be telling everyone how they never wanted any of those scrubs and how terrible of an idea it was to sign them seen this show before.

I do not care if the Isles are not a prime destination right now. You have to hold the line on players like Leo, Hickey, and Johnston. You see what Barry can do this year and buy time for guys like Wahlstrom and Dodson and you hope you are competitive to add more players and better players next offseason.

I’m excited about Wahlstrom and Dobson to an extent... Just like I was for MDC and every other prospect that we drafted and went through Thompson who is still there for some inexplicable reason? Just a little tired of the we’ll be great in four years bullshat. There’s always an excuse to be bad for the Islanders and it seems they’ll continue to find them. Now we can firmly say it’s because we signed bad players to long term contracts both our “our old gm” and new. We’re stuck with them because nobody is taking them believe me on that.

I'm much more excited for the prospects now that we have Lou and Barry running the show. The Thompson thing is very bizarre. No way do I want the Isles to be bad for 4 years. I would have been fine after losing JT for Lou to hold most of the money even if it meant bringing back players like Prince and Quine for a year.

Now that Trotz is running the big club the system and structure used in BP will be the same.
Thompson has been in BP with some questionable head coaches up with the big club who he had to deal and coach for. I think he’s a decent coach from what I have heard and the players seem to respect him.

Silver king maybe?

This could be true about Thompson 7. I just like the idea of making a change in Bridge. I know Barry can have Thompson play the same system in Bridge that Barry is playing with the Isles. I just do not know if Thompson can develop young talent properly? I guess we will find out.

This all sounds vaguely familiar. Also, are we saying Thompson is a bad coach due to Doug Weight and Capuano? Not sure if I understand your post?

Not that you guys want to hear this.... but JT got married this weekend.

In Niagara On The Lake, Ontario.

Had the reception @ Gretzky's Winery.

I don't think he ever planned on going back to Long Island.

Bastards.... need to change my avatar.

Yes I think Thompson took his marching orders from the two Bozos that coached The Islanders.
The system and Structure played was exactly the same so as far as developing prospects at BP I think Thompson was certainly hindered.

I think if Trotz and Lou didn’t like him he would be gone. He passed the test I guess.

I wouldn't read much into it. Both he and his wife are from there. Why make most of your friends and family fly to LI for a wedding.

Well I think it’s pretty obvious he passed the test but the reasoning behind it is certainly questionable.
