A guy that I grew up with used to work for the NHL. He knew I was a big hockey fan so he used to tell me things all the time. I think only 10% of it was true. I don't think he was lying, he was just passing on what he heard most of which was BS. Even mid level people at the NHL have no idea what's really going on.

If y'all are starving for nugz I can start making things up for you. If I make up enough stuff I may even be right once or twice.

I heard Lou wants nothing to do with the team after JT left. He is quitting and going to the Flames. Snow will be taking charge in two weeks. He will fire Trotz and bring back Cappy.

Choke on that nug!

A way to rewrite what you are complaining about...

1. You get Lou as GM, Trotz as coach, and an awesome staff...however...
2. You lose JT .. and his $11 mill+ of cap hit a year.

3. You take back Martin with no salary retained- although u are paying him less you still have the cap hit... which b/c of JT doesn't really matter. You get a guy who was the heart and soul of this team. who I saw just this weekend in the parking lot of Iceworks flipping tires with some of the young kids.

4. You pay Ross Johnston $1m/yr for 4 years.. which is a wopping 200k more than you paid Boulton for years to be a healthy scratch for 99% of the games but somehow now it matter.

5. You sign Hickey for 4 years. who despite a horrific coaching staff and brutal defensive partners had the best corsi and advanced stats on the team. (I don't love Hickey but I have faith in Trotz and Lou more than Isles' fans).

6. You pay Komarov $3m/yr for 4 years... If he plays well it's cheap. If he stinks he will clear waivers in a minute.

Great players cost money. JT at $11M per isn’t ridiculous. What happens if Barzal explodes and becomes a JT caliber player? Do you not want them to pay him either and have him traded away for picks? It’ll be like the Oakland A’s. This team spent years trading guys instead of signing hem. Eventually if your players develop, they have to get paid.

He (Barzal) already is jt caliber. You see his stats last yr? And he can actually slay the puck through the neutral zone. Who’da thunk? Even if barzal has a soho slump, he’s legit and around for the long haul.

Yep and that’s exactly why you don’t sign garbage to three years. Between Johnston, Martin, Clutterbuck, and Komorav we have ten million tied up for four years between them. Add Hickey and it’s 12.5 forget about Pelech and Mayfield that just makes it laughable. Realistically that cap hit for those players should’ve been three of them at maybe four million for a couple years.

That’s exactly why these contracts actually do have a negative effect and that’s exactly why I’ll never understand the “who cares we have cap space” crowd. Barzal is looking for a new contract in a couple years and we have 12.5 tied up in crap for the next four. He’ll need to be signed and other players will need to be signed just to make the team competitive Martin, Johnston, Komorav, and Hickey are not players that make this team competitive. Can’t blame past management for bad contracts and continue to hand them out and compound the problem even further.

I feel like all of you missed my point by a lot. I was not saying JT wasn't worth the money. I am also not saying I did not want him to sign. I am saying if you asked me in May would I take .. Lou, Trots, Korn, etc.... Snow and Weight gone, but had to also lose JT would I have done it. I would have said yes....

my point was to try and show you the silver lining. we have a HOF coach, a HOF gm, and that is exponentially better than status quo with JT still wearing the "C".

I will stop trying to cheer you guys up.

"Josh has to be part of our future." the coach asserted. "He's a talent who needs to be understood better than he has been. In this case, Lou will be good. My belief is that the kid has been misunderstood because he looks at the game differently."

I think it's put up or shut up for Ho-Sang at this point. He's been "misunderstood" by so many people over the years, you start to think that if no one at all can understand this guy, the problem just might be with him. He doesn't seem like a bad kid at all...just an incredibly difficult one. He's got electrifying skill, though. Can't deny that.

He does see the game differently. He made some crazy passes what would have been great except no one was expecting them so they resulted in turn overs. I think trying to simplify his game and play north/south will do wonders. We'll see that Trotz can do with him.
