Hedman had no trouble shutting down JT. Hedman would not shut Barzal down as easily.

I’m not worried about Barzal....he’s the real deal. Just not ideal to put the team on a kids shoulders who’s so young. It is what it is. Suck or no suck I’m a fan again. All it took was getting a real GM and coach.
- kindlyrick

Unless Lou has other moves outside of 4th line players, really not much will be expected of the Isles. Barzal should still be able to do his thing and the team still has only 3 people covering them.

Real danger of this happening hockeyman. Going to be very interesting the reaction if JT keeps floating back on D and his OT and SO play. Let's see if the Leaf fans will be so forgiving. Nowhere to hide for JT any longer and no more 3 people covering the team.
- ses111

The leafs are gonna have the same problem as the isles. They’ll score the goals but they don’t have a good backend. Add to that the fact that other than Marleau and maybe one other player they have ZERO playoff experience really. I know it was a big thing for them to get the hometown hero but truth be told they didn’t need Tavares. They were already strong down the middle. That 11 shmill shoulda been used on Karlsonn IMO

The day JT signed with the leafs i said now we can put that argument to rest. Hedman was the better draft pick.

The people who wanted Hedman were right. Thought there were more than a few hockey people who thought Hedman should have been the pick. I thought maybe even Bill Torrey?

He will also have a real coach for the first time in his NHL career but I think there's a very fine line between him doing good or crashing face first into a wall. I can definitely see the latter happening it's going to be a big adjustment I'm not sure if he's up to the task. We will find out I'll be watching hoping he face plants.

Don’t be surprised to see some good hockey from the isles. Let’s not get caught up on 4th liner status. They’re obviously signing a certain type of player. EVERY guy they signed goes to the net hard. I don’t think that’s a coincidence. Too many perimeter players of the years.

Yep! Offense will not be an issue. They need help on the backend and the forwards have to commit to D. I thought the Leafs focus should have been on D.

I just worry about these players being able to keep up with a faster NHL. I agree the Isles have been soft. I think a big product of that was coaching as well.

At the time it was a toss up. Do you wanna build down the middle or from the goalie out. Obviously Snow built down the middle (and never stopped. Ha). But, now that the dust has settled i gotta say how fitting it is that Snows biggest draft pick/franchise player is gone. It’s no longer Snows team, his best player is gone.....how fitting. New era

That's my biggest concern. It's not that Barzal can't handle it I believe he can but he needs help. Jovar is not help imo. It was a good low risk move but with that said going into the season expecting him or Nelson to be our 2nd line center is very Snow like.

Babcock should help but JT still has to accept playing defense is not beneath him. The JT and Matthews dynamic should be interesting. Will they get along and co-exist well? Easy for them to be excited about being teammates now in the summer, but if things get rough will they remain close?

They usually go hand in hand in the beginning at least. Then there's no twitch.

Most hockey people believe in building from the backend out. I understand the JT pick but picking Hedman would have made sense as well.

The vast majority would've lost their (frank)ing minds if we picked Hedman. Defenseman in the top 3 are normally high risk picks but with that said in hind sight I wish we picked him... of course. Tavares absolutely dry banged us. He deserves shat thrown at him when he comes back.
