I have been saying forever this team was stacked with talent and the coaching was terrible. If nothing else this year I lose that excuse. If Pulock, Ho Sang, Brock, and others that have under-performed continue to do so under Trotz I will be both shocked and really annoyed. This year we finally have a real coach and he is surrounding himself with real bench coaches. This team should do a lot better than most are thinking.

We'll see what Trotz can do with him, but at some point it stops being under performing and becomes who he is.

Agreed but I believe brock is going to surprise this season under Trotz if hes still with us at the start of camp.

Potential doesn't mean poop unless you live up to it. If you don't live up to potential/expectations then you were overrated and overvalued in the first place. We'll see which one Nelson is after this season.

I think Nelson has a better chance of turning things around if he's not just some extra thrown wherever. I realize part of the reason that happened was his inconsistency, but I think the opposite could also be true...his inconsistency results from being just thrown in wherever, with really no apparent defined role.

I mean, I think he was used most often last year with Tanner Fritz and Andrew Ladd. What exactly is that line's mission when it takes the ice? Score goals? Check? Play tough D? It's not really ideal for doing anything other than logging minutes until a better offensive or defensive line can hit the ice.

Decide if he's a winger or a center, decide if he's a scoring forward or a defensive one, and give him a defined role to fill, and he might become more consistent.

I have made this point before but this is exactly the age that Okposo and Bailey were when they finally figured it out. I am hopeful... cautiously.

He has actually had MORE success than Ok and Bailey did at this point with 20 goals a year.

Trotz is the wildcard here. None of the under achievers you listed have played for a real NHL coach. Now they have a Cup winning coach who will put in a real system. I can't write anyone off until we see how they respond.

Hopefully with this coaching staff UIF we see a real system and plan. No more using dart boards to make the lines.

It's a good point Jimmy. What players did before under Cappy and Doug will hopefully not be the what they do under Barry.

I've always said that I think if Nelson was utilized properly he might be able to hit the 50-60 point plateau. Put him in front of the net or in the high slot to use that wrist shot and with guys that can pass. I really hope his lack of consistent success was due to the idiot coaches that he's had.

Hopefully guys will have an understanding of what they're supposed to do. Not just skate around the ice like a bunch of paste eaters.

I would keep the Barzal line together and maybe use Kovar or Nelson with Lee and Bailey and either Kovar or Nelson goes to the 3rd line. Hopefully some good competition pushed Nelson.

Competition, a good coach, a new GM, hopefully anything that wakes him from the malaise.

Never really about a lack of talent with Bailey and Nelson. Hopefully Barry can get Nelson to use his size. No reason Nelson cannot be a 50-60 point player.

I thought I saw the top two lines being
Beau/Barzal/Ebs
Lee/Kovar/Bailey

I don't see why not. If the country club attitude is indeed gone then maybe guys will be held accountable. Not just the young guys paying for the sins of the vets as has been the case in years past.

Then what?
Ladd-Nelson/Komarov-Filpula/Kuhnhackl
Martin-CC-CC

Let's just assume Johnston & Kuhnhackl go to Bridge. Still have to do something with Komarov or Nelson and JHS/Bellows(AHL)/Wahlstrom & ---
