Now there’s a breath of fresh air

We know give him time but his record in toronto was suspect and with the devils, these are a lot of signings for bad players. Hopefully he has some kind of plan here im sure he didnt say hey john we are gonna have 2 lines of tards and yours and that kids

its cap compliant but barely and sure they can pay him and its only money but why?
- Upstate_isles

I would think to push players like martin and clutterbuck... would assume others will feel the same fate and get cut out of camp... will make players earn a spot rather then just walk in day 1 and boys club it is.. if they are willing to spend however they want its their money... wish it was on better talent but never know... them signing Kovar has me in an ok place with whats going on.. really hope he pans out

And the Islanders still have the same defense they had last year. Which sucked.
- chazpet

It will be better with a real system but it really needs more talant. Pulock, pelach, leddy and boychuk (possibly) can be good hickey is ok but they need a legit top guy and no one is coming here unless its on a 4 year deal

PK was 31st in the league...think that might have had to do with giving up the most goals a bit... can't just blame D... Forward group was not so great helping out..horrible system

Suspect in Toronto? In what way? He made the decisions there and they have become relevant in two years.

I think we all know a one way deal means he gets nhl salary whether hes in the ahl or nhl and a two way deal is different depending on the league, generally nhl minimum but they thought he was worth more i guess. Also of note is if its below a certain ammount or percentage it doesnt affect the cap for the big club if hes in the ahl( they just went under it with him). So maybe the thought is that cizikas and clutterfuck were hurt a lot and hes gonna come up in that situation. My issue is why pay a fringe player that much? Maybe they want to make bridgeport better for their young players to develop but ross johnston isnt going to help there and protection is crap too. Stars get hit and sometimes hit later by a goon but its always after the fact and it still happens. Lou knows his stuff and theres lots of time left, his two best moves were lehner and this kovar kid today

Like what? Oh he drafted matthews? I could have done that, he brought in Martin and polak and guys that play a slower game in a league thats all about speed. Yes he dumped dion and a few others but he had as many hits as misses if you really look at the moves he made.

Listen I get the questions asked about what he’s doing here and the constant negativity because that’s what’s expected here on a daily basis. But holy Fvck let’s not now say Lou didn’t do anything up in Toronto. Let’s give some credit where credit is due. They sucked, he came and in 2 years they are relevant competitive and a Team players want to go and play for.
Let’s give Lou and Trotz some credit on their past performance and let them have some time to change what was done ( not in a good way )with this organization for the last 12 years.

Im not being negative but nonis drafted nylander and marner two of the big three i mean mathews was the consensus 1st pick. Im not knocking him per say but hunter had a huge role there too. Im just waiting like the rest of you for something to happen
Edit: i do think the isles are trying to make the bridge better so their prospects are a bit more sheltered and have more talant to work on their pro game

So basically, Johnston can be waived every September for the next four years. He will just make the same amount whether he is in Bridgeport or Long Island. And assuming his salary is close to minimum, he won’t impact the NHL cap while he’s in Bridgeport.

This is still a very NOT IDEAL way to operate an NHL franchise. A long term deal to fringe player is still ridiculous. But the one-way deal has no bearing on where RJ will be playing as long as the Isles are willing to pay the same salary in BPT (which they seem to be ok with).

- Upstate_isles

Maybe we’ll get lucky when they Waive Johnston and he’ll get picked up by another team...

So any of the good moves made up there weren’t because of Lou it was because of Nonis and Hunter. Ok I understand now. He must have had some smart people in NJ when he was running the Devils then too.

Let’s give Lou and Trotz some time. The Islanders weren’t destroyed in 2 months it took over two decades. L and T deserve just a bit more time to fix what ails this team.
