I dont disagree with this at all but doesn't change my opinion on what I've seen so far. You can retool and remain competitive. Signing Thomas hickey to a 4 year deal is not doing that imo. That's doing more of the same of what we experienced for the last 12 years but like you said and I said earlier I'll give it some time.

Meh Cpt., Hickey who played really well imo with Pulock last year when they were put together, honestly the best defensive pair on the team. I’m not hating it.
As far as being competitive, you just lost your best player and are playing in 2 home venues and your supposed to sign players to make you better? Not much you can do on a team most don’t want to come to to make it better quickly.
Maybe Lou should give you a call to help out

Who wouldn’t the isles have gone after in free agency? I’m asking seriously, because of the guys that I’ve seen sign, the market looked barren to say the least. I know the guys Lou signed are not inspiring. But he only committed to Filppula for a year and to kuhnackle for a year. Hickey isn’t a great player, but at $2.5M per for four years, that about what a third pair d-man on a decent team goes for. I know nothing about a Komarov other than what people have been saying here.

Lou is going to have to go the trade route to get this team better, or else just build through the draft again. Neither scenario is easy or painless.

John Tavares, 6/26/16:

@Sportsnet: What will be your favorite part playing in Toronto in two years?

@91Tavares: I would not count on that. I think I've shown my commitment, my appreciation and my desire to play on Long Island. I would love for that to continue for the long haul

Move on Upstate the guy is FOS. A traitor in the first degree. We should all get Islander jerseys with Benedict Arnold on a 91 Jersey.
Phuck him he’s a phony plain and simple.

I would have held the line on no more than two year deals for these players. 4 seems very excessive for Hickey and Komarov. These players are not the future.

After Tavares’ departure, all Isles future assets have to be guarded; there’s a real chance this season will be a mess and Lamoriello correctly didn’t blow through the Isles’ futures to make up for the body blow of Tavares leaving.

Going to be painful but it's the right move. Right before Belmont, Isles should have more than enough prospects to make a big deal. Keep as much cap space as possible now.

You and I disagree on Hickey I think he blows we will agree to disagree on that because it's more than tired at this point. As far as the rest let's not start with the excuse laden BS already. There's always an excuse for why nothing happens or why we sign shat players. Looking at what was done so far it was to me and plenty of other fans/hockey people pointless and used a significant amount of cap space unnecessarily. Him signing these guys and extending Hickey for 4 years is not the two venue BS theories fault. I said I would give it time you just want to fight. Go back to BD's thread and promise the Islander fanbase that's there's a light at the end of the tunnel like they give a (frank) what you think

Komarov is 4 years I disagree on Hickey. The free agent market was thin agreed but there were goaltenders available. As of now we have Gibson and Greiss. We're going to start building through the draft again? Not sure the fan base is up to it but we shall see... Even if there's not much out there I see no point at throwing a crap ton of money at worthless players. Maybe these guys will surprise but every stat literally says otherwise. Snow used to do it all the time and it drove me nuts. Lou is doing it now and it still drives me nuts .

Seattle looks to be a 2020 expansion draft sometime in june...if we load up now we still wont win a cup in the next 2 years..we are thin at C position in farm..with the draft have a couple decent D prospects but could use another draft or 2 to really setup for future...wont have to protect whats not in NHL...and possibly send off a bad contract..could be a really horrible 2 years but if setup correct years 3 and 4 could be fun to watch

I have no issue with not blowing through all the prospects at this point chasing deals trying to make up losing JT. I rather just play guys like Pelech, Mayfield, Toews, Ho Sang instead of signing the players we signed yesterday. You want to sign them to one year deals two tops fine not 4 years though.

The way Bettman took care of Vegas, the Isles will lose Dobson or Wahlstrom to Seattle.

Komorov deal is terrible the other two are 1 year deals and aimed at guys who can kill penalties and take faceoff I think. If they go big and get Karlsson great otherwise maybe a trade for a keeper and pray a system works

Well I’m not going to dissect your response, but as far as hockey people they understand the Hickey signing. And again maybe you could have made the team better after it lost its franchise player but honestly I don’t think Lou L can. But he has how many more Stanley cups than you
Come on please let’s give it some time. Can you do that?

he still is taking care of Vegas..they won't have to part with players in expansion..but they don't get part of the 650m that the rest of the league will get...if thats what they are looking at down the road then i am ok with what he is doing now..long time to find out though

Hickey at 4 years is bad to me. Yes please get a keeper Lou. He should be on the phone non-stop with Vegas getting one of their 100 goalies. That needed to be Lou's first move not re-signing Hickey.

Hickey isnt that bad can play up and down the lineup on d 4 years is a bit much perhaps I know we want better d but hockey and dehaan were actually some of the better ones. It's like when okposo and neilson were the top 2 ufas and we were the team letting them walk
