Hopefully cizikas isn’t hurt too bad. He look to hurt his shoulder a few games ago and I don’t think he played the third period last game?

That I'm not sure of.

Nobody wants to hear it but the Isles cap situation isn't as good as it seems, IF they're going to sign Panarin.

I used $82M as the cap ceiling (It is rumored to be as high as $83M next year) and this is what I was able to slap together. That includes trading Beau and a 2nd for Tuch and shipping Greiss to ARI for a 3rd and a 6th. I "signed" Sorokin for the ELC max dollar amount.

Problem is that, while there's $4M in cap space for next season...there's only Martin coming off the books after next year @ $2.5M and both Barzal and Pulock needing new contracts.

I think they'll have to explore the option of trading Bailey and Leddy this summer. I think Toews is good enough to provide similar value to Leddy at a fraction of the cost. Bailey will have value to other teams and has a very reasonable contract. I think the Islanders would gain a ton of draft capital, as well as make room to go on a shopping spree. Win-win.

No he's injured, allegedly. Minor though. A lot of forwards are sick. That's why they had to call up JHS/MDC on emergency loan. Can only use emergency call-ups if there are less than 12 healthy rostered forwards.

Isles will have over $30 mill in cap space July as of right now... IF they sign some big fish it would be a wonderful problem to have to deal with.. and they would deal with it. How? not sure but there are lot of options IF they run into that scenario. But once again the Isles are not anywhere near the cap limit this year and the only cap issues they have ever had in the past was making the bottom tier.. not the top.

Bailey becomes cheaper for any team that wants him every year as his cap hit will be more than he gets paid from this year forward.

they can buy out a contract or 2 like Ladd, Boychuk, etc.

They can trade some cheaper guys who are movable..even if they have to eat some.. Hickey, etc.

they have guys coming off the books every year as the RFA's come due.

the Cap is supposed to go higher again this summer.

Bottom line... I am not worried.

I'm not worried either, but it's worth mentioning and/or talking about.

They also really can't buy out Ladd or Boychuk. The savings won't be that much and they'll be on the cap for an ungodly amount of time.

I would think Bailey and/or Leddy will be the easiest to move as they both carry value (Leddy significant value) and don't have any type of NTC.

I posted a worse case scenario roster, operating under the possibility that Lou strikes out on Duchene and Panarin.

I don't love it.

Here's an absolutely absurd one that leaves them with a massively improved roster AND a real good head-start on cap space for Barzal/Pulock

Vegas ain't trading Tuch me thinks. That boy has Captain material written all over him.

Also, you traded for Hintz and then left him off the roster.

Other than that I quite like it.

Tuch's extension is going to kick in next year and he will be making close to $5M and will be a third line RW on Vegas, behind Stone and Smith.

Vegas also has extensions for Schmidt (goes from $2.25M --> $5.95M), Fleury ($5.75M --> $7M), Pacioretty ($4.05M --> $7M) and Stone ($7.35M --> $9.5M) kicking in as well. And they also need to re-sign UFA William Karlsson, too.

I don't see a way for them to clear the cap space they're going to need without trading someone valuable. Tuch lets them recoup some of the assets that they traded for Stone. I would be all over that trade if I were Lou. That's a damn fine player locked up for 7yrs at a very, very good number. I'd go up to 1st, Beau, one Aho/MVS/Wotherspoon for him.

If Vegas is dead-set on keeping Tuch and they're willing to let Karlsson walk, that opens up a new option for the 2C spot for the Isles in UFA.

As far as Hintz....yeah he'd have to go to the AHL until they could sort out the Ladd situation when the expansion draft rolls around two offseasons from now. Not like he couldn't be included in another deal either.

Now that might just do it. Pick, player and a prospect is quite fair for a player of Tuch's skill set and contract.

Also I'm a big fan of Hintz. Dude is a full on ball of energy, and I think he'll become a solid player. Be hard to let an asset like that go down to the AHL.

There ya go, moved Hintz up to the 13th forward spot. He's probably too good for that, but this isn't like some multi-year armchair GM function where I can predict what happens. He could, very hypothetically, stick around for a year or two in purgatory while we wait for Ladd to be able to be (hopefully) traded around expansion time.

Anyway, it was supposed to be a bit of an absolutely absurd and improbable offseason...but not totally unrealistic

I'm unsure of what the return for Tuch would be only because the Knights aren't exactly going to have a ton of leverage. That's a lot of money in new extensions they're adding next season. But I'm happy to pay the 1st+Beau+Aho if it beats out the rest of the market. I think Tuch is a player and is going to be a real, real good RW in a few years.

I concur. He's gonna be a 60+ point winger for sure.
