They been winning or getting at least a point lately because of goaltending. They weren’t better last night. Lehner was better.

That’s (frank)ing it? 😳

Dzingel got more FFS, and Nyquist is far and away the better player.

No doubt, seems like nothing - a 2nd and conditional 3rd...wow. He's 16G 33A in 62 games this yr. Detroit retaining 30% of his salary too. This is the perfect type of player to add and he hardly cost anything. There have to be others.

I don’t expect them to give up what it would cost to get stone or Panarin but they need help on offense. Johansson is better than what they have playing with Barzel right now. Ladd is better that’s how bad his line has been lately.

And yes i feel they will not make it out of the first round or maybe not win this division without offensive help. It will be very disappointing to have so much success just to lose it because they didn’t add a player at the deadline and I don’t know how an Islanders fan cannot be worried if you been watching them the past few weeks.

Just my opinion.

Before this season if someone said the isles would be first in the metro at this time of year none of us would believe it, as this was supposed to be the year for Lou to determine who stays and who goes so to speak. Now, they’re playing well and while everyone wants the big name, it simply doesn’t make sense to trade real deal assets for rentals. Just making the post season this year should be enough with the new regime. If after July 1st the isles don’t target needs, then we as fans have a reason to chirp. But, they’re playing on the houses money right now....

I see what you’re saying but I think these posts are also a bit short sighted. So because they surprised and are playing better than expected they shouldn’t try to improve and fill obvious holes? What would you say if Lameriello traded for Stone would you then condemn that move? You seem to think making a trade is not a good idea correct? I’m curious to see what the “playing on house money” crowds reactions are if Lameriello does make a move.

I will be disappointed if they don't add to the top 6. Nyquist type move. We need scoring punch. He would have perfect with Barzal.

I honestly go back and forth with it. The way the team has been playing that’s the easy answer.

I don't want to see them trade for a rental that could walk in July. I can't wait for 4pm.

Nyquist also had a full NTC. For all we know Lou tried to get him and DET asked if he would waive for the Islanders and he said no.

So if guys won’t wave NTC for a chance to play in playoffs for the Islanders what’s going to change when we try to get them as free agents.

I don’t expect them to mortgage the future but just looking for one offensive player to play on Barzel line. I just feel right now he’s very frustrated and is trying to do too much.

I'm of the belief that I'll trust whatever Lou does at this point, this season. If he decides to ride what got them here, fine. If he plans on making a couple big signings in July, fine. They do need more scoring punch, as has been stated a million times over. They're a hell of a lot further along than anyone thought they'd be. Personally, I'd like to see them add Panarin. I guess we'll just have to sit tight and see how this plays out.

Same old Isles? They are in first in the Metro. Really?
- nyisles7

At the deadline you chimp.

Also from dredger
Boston and the New York Islanders will be watched closely today. The Isles could be a sleeper and the Bruins are still in on Stone, Simmonds and Toffoli as bigger options.

I can’t watch Kuhnhackl on his line anymore.
Get the kid someone to play with if you won’t put bel and Ebs back on his line. I know it’s been a while since they played together but that was a fun line to watch.

I agree with you this whole "we shouldn't be here but are and should just be happy" is absurd, they are here and ahead of a lot of good teams that are adding. They have won more than those teams all year it's not a fluke you need to add

The only thing I can think of is that at the deadline, you're going to a team with the best chance to win a cup. Signing as a free agent, you're looking at more of what the future of the teams holds. More security. Just a guess.

The fact that they'll get significant raises from their contract that just expired? The fact that we have absolutely no idea that Gustav Nyquist was a) asked to waive to come to the Isles b) refused to waive to come to the Isles or c) agreed to waive to come to the Isles but, for some reason, DET chose to accept San Jose's offer instead?

You're right. It's not a fluke. Trotz and Lou put together these guys for a reason. Trotz is a damn good coach and he's maximized most of the potential out of these guys. We'll see what Lou does.

Not sure if during the TDL Lou gets an opportunity to speak and sell the team to players that have NTC’s? That may be one of the things that are different? I get your frustration I don’t think there’s a fan on this thread that doesn’t but let’s see how this day shakes out before we draw any conclusions. I can see Lou going either way.
