Next Thursday is going to be SO MUCH FUN

PB poured out his heart and soul.

You can tell with they way he played defense and his OT play.

Yes Lou should have traded his rights to the Leafs. I'm sure the Leafs would have gladly given up a 7th round pick.

I can't say I'm not jealous.

I was a big fan of Mike Peca, attended his first game back at the Coli after idiot Milbury traded him to Edmonton for Mike York. They gave him a nice video tribute at the first commercial break and the fans gave him a good ovation.

But this is a TOTALLY different situation....

Yeah you really don't see anyone get booed after a trade unless they specifically requested one.

Dreger is echoing the comments of (a lot of, but not all) Leafs fans that can't seem to understand that Isles fans are pissed about how he left and not the fact that he did leave.

Nobody blames him for the actual act of leaving and he absolutely did earn the right to make whatever decision was best in his eyes. He did nothing wrong in that regard and I don't hold that against him. But the year-long PR tour of claiming he never wants to play anywhere but LI and asking (frank)wad Snow not to trade him was gutless and disgusting.

Interesting, too, was that that article indicated that PB had pretty much made up his mind well in advance of July 1. I guess that was just BS about him not knowing ahead of time.

This was from a (non-Tavares related) article that LeBrun wrote for the Athletic this morning:

But, and here’s why I’m bringing all this up, it almost came to pass that Tavares ended up on an eight-year deal with Toronto. How, you ask? Once Tavares agonizingly, finally decided he was leaving the Islanders for his hometown Leafs, there was only about 24-48 hours before July 1 depending on which account you believe. Either way, it left a very tight window for the Leafs and Islanders to contemplate a sign-and-trade involving Tavares, but it was in fact contemplated. I’m told Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello and Leafs GM Kyle Dubas did have a short exchange about which asset Toronto would be willing to pay to get the Islanders to sign Tavares to eight years for them before flipping him to the Leafs. But whether the asset in question was too meagre to interest Lamoriello or whether they just ran out of time, it never came to pass.

(As an aside, I quoted Lamoriello at the draft in Dallas the week before saying he wouldn’t do a sign-and-trade but assumed, and apparently correctly, that was smart, calculated posturing to ensure the Islanders kept their leverage until the last possible moment that only they could give him eight years and nobody else).

They do not understand just like they do not understand why the Isles are winning this year. It's crazy to them that goalies can actually play well when not under constant siege. PB should have asked for a trade. It was the right thing to do. The way PB left was sticking it to the team and fans.

Eh, no one cares enough to look that far into it, just like we wouldn't look that far into it if we landed the biggest FA fish and all of a sudden heard the shrieking whines of fans of the player's previous team.

Fair point. But, in that case, still wouldn't go around beaking every fan of the team the guy left from spouting off a bunch of crap when I don't know what I'm talking about.

Anyway, it'll be a hilarious and fun game. Hopefully they win, otherwise all the fun would be erased. Doubly-bad if Tavares leaves with a goal or a few points.

I'm sincerely hoping that once this game is over we can stop seeing the media, especially local media, writing articles that he is the center of. He plays for a different team and after this game I'm putting the whole thing to bed, personally speaking. I don't like him and I hope he never wins a Cup, but it's all been beaten to death and at this point I'm just tired of hearing about him.

I agree with Schwein...silence would be friggin golden.

Haha, no way will it happen though. Could be like Mystery, Alaska when everyone breaks out the newspapers when the Rangers first skate out on their pond.

Dead silence would be the absolute funniest possible thing to do. His dumbass tribute playing while he just sits on the bench looking around confused would be one absolutely hilarious. If I had my way, everyone would take out a newspaper and pretend to read it like some college fans do when they announce the visiting teams' lineups.

Just walked in to Saddledome here in Calgary and can tell you, for sure, LW Andrew Ladd is with the team. Obviously, this is not big news, since he and Thomas Hickey were recalled from conditioning assignment. Have to assume Hickey is here, too.

On the first point, yeah, that's probably why no one likes Toronto fans

On the second, I don't mind being cast as the villain by Toronto media and then laughing at their "Oh, I never!" responses to Isles fans' shitposting. Their reaction to whatever insane madness the Coliseum crowd unleashes is going to be amazing...provided, as you said, that the Isles win.

I read somewhere that Lou usually likes to get his deals done sooner rather than later. I gotta wonder if he’s waiting to see who blinks first and then makes his move.
- kindlyrick

I think he will make a move sooner unless he does it later.

I still think that the absolute best way to get him off his game is to bully him all night long. When he got knocked around a lot here he'd often end up taking some stupid, selfish retaliation penalty.

Case-in-point

Petty much the way you always want to play against the opponents skilled guys I would say

This may seem quite crazy but I can see Lou doing nothing. He’s been quoted saying he won’t do something JUST to do it. This team has needs though, I just don’t know how much Lou wants to (frank) with the chemistry.

Yeah but he was always especially testy when he got knocked around. When he got frustrated you could pretty much see the hooking/slashing/tripping penalty coming a mile away.

I mean at the end of the day he's got a lot of friends in that locker room. They've already played each other and it was readily apparent that nobody is going to take a run at him. I don't think the game being at the Coliseum will change that much. Maybe someone finishes their check early to get the crowd going nuts, but nobody is going out there trying to collect a bounty on his head.

I'd love to see him lined up and trucked as much as anyone, I just don't think it's gonna happen.

- eichiefs9

I agree Chiefs.

I think Barry's message in the room before the game will be don't be caught up in the whole JT thing and play your game.

You run around undisciplined and give the Leafs a PP is exactly what the Isles don't want to do.

I think you will see the CCM line start the game and crank up the volume with some unforced good hits.

I am leaving Fl. just to be back for this game. I can't wait.

It's a tough call Potvin. I can see Lou giving this team this run and if they are out early in the playoffs then Lou can go big this offseason.

I gotta say. With all due respect to Dan and Noel because I enjoyed what they wrote, I think we’re better off without a blogger because it is refreshing to not have all the site’s dunces poopposts here and a few of you actually write halfway intelligent poop or provide useful links.
