Mikko Koskinen expected to start tonight for #LetsGoOilers. No surprises there, as Cam Talbot is expected to go against the #Isles tomorrow. Believe NYI is one of the teams showing some interest in Cam. Strong defensive team that is playoff bound could be a nice fit for him.

1. Artemi Panarin, Blue Jackets – Depending on who you ask, the price is either extremely rich or things haven’t gotten far enough along in talks to have a great understanding of what the concrete price tag is for Panarin.

Multiple sources echoed a report earlier this week from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman that said the Los Angeles Kings make sense for Panarin, with one team executive predicting that’s where he ultimately ends up in free agency. “I think he’s going to L.A.,” he said when asked for a destination. The Islanders, Rangers and Panthers are also still considered the front-runners to land him after July 1, and it makes sense for the Islanders to pay a steep price now to land him out of those teams.

“I think Lou (Lamoriello) can get him signed,” said one source.

But Panarin is such a great player that he’s worth the high price as a rental, even if a team doesn’t have a shot at keeping him. The option to keep him in Columbus is always there, as long as the Blue Jackets look like legitimate contenders, but there’s doubt around the league that Columbus will go down that route.

You thinking a Ladd for Lucic trade as well?
- Wildschwein

Do you think you can actually get something good for Talbot? I really have no idea.. not trying to be a Richard.

Still think Duchene is Lou’s mark. As a rental he may not want to blow the assets and think the Preds may throw a ton out there but if he’s available in FA I think we get him.

Just my opinion.

In that Athletic article someone referenced before it noted that Duchene wants to be a number-one center, which, arguably he wouldn't be on the Isles. But who knows...the Isles don't really seem to put any kind of emphasis on line numbers, and to the extent they have, they've listed Nelson's line as the first one almost all season.

So Bingo brought this up in the Oilers thread.

Oilers had discussion with Markus Lehto, agent for Jesse Puljujarvi today. Team is open to trading him if a proper return can be found, and in the meantime an AHL stint to help boost offence and confidence is being considered. No decisions yet.

You guys want him?

Maybe, but there's been a lot of talk around the Isles/Lou and Panarin and I really haven't seen much in the way of any connections with the Isles and Duchene.

Not that that means much, since Lou is so tight-lipped, but if we're going with the "where there's smoke, there's fire" method...Panarin seems like the guy they're targeting. Panarin is a better player, but Duchene would fill a hole at center. Personally speaking, I'd rather have Nelson/Panarin than Duchene.

Not bloody likely. If we get Stolarz I'd be satisfied.

I think the return needed to convince the Oilers to trade Puljujarvi would be quite high. Team still believes in the player and if return isn’t what they want they’ll be happy to sit tight and continue working with him.

I'd like him, but not at the cost it would take to get him.

Yeah, but what constitutes "quite high" to the (frank)stick Oiler management staff? MDC and a 2nd?

So tell him hes the 1c barzal 2 and Nelson 3 that's deep especially the way Nelson has played this year. Been strong on puck and made a lot of good subtle 1v1 moves

A hold-the-phone update: Orange not representing non-contact here at full #Isles practice.
Michael Dal Colle, Ross Johnston and Andrew Ladd all in orange. They are skating as the extra forward line.
Thomas Hickey (in blue) taking line rushes with Luca Sbisa as an extra D pair.

I agree. Panarin/Nelson is better than just Duchene. Even Stone and Nelson would work. It would be a bad sign if after this year and Lou and Barry if the Isles cannot land a top FA.

Your preaching to the choir Mick. I wanted nothing to do with him and thought he was worthless since Garf signed him.

I think Trotz will give him a go with either Barzal or filly and Komorov.

Let’s hope he is better. Fingers Crossed.

- nyisles7

It was the opposite for me...I always liked Ladd and was happy when the Isles got him. The switch finally flipped for me earlier this season when he just reminded me way too much of Rolston when he was here...where it looked like he was actively avoiding getting involved in plays.

Either way, he's probably getting ice time, so, yeah, hopefully the team's success motivates him a bit and we see something closer to Six-Years-Ago-Ladd.

Dillman: If someone is going to take Kovalchuk at this stage, the team would only have to pay about a quarter of his salary for the rest of the season. Plus the acquisition cost is going to be minimal.

There might be a team that thinks Kovalchuk — in the right situation — could be an asset. If the cost is minimal, it’s not the same as the top names that are circulating, like Mark Stone, Matt Duchene and Artemi Panarin.

With those names, the acquisition costs will be astronomical. Not every contender is going to want to meet that high of a price. But lots of contenders are going to be looking for subtle tweaks and improvements, so there could be a fit.

Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reported last week that Kovalchuk might be willing to waive his no-move clause for the right situation. It is our understanding that has not changed.
