I would only be interested in a Ladd type trade. It’s bad enough having both Bailey and Kovy.
- ses111

I imagine kovy getting open and having barzal feed him wouldn't be the worst thing but defensively oh boy

Kovalchuk would address the anemic PP and the brutal shootouts.

I just don’t know if LA is gonna wanna take Ladd and his contract. You’d have to throw in a higher pick to sweeten the deal
- kindlyrick

Something like Ladd with $1M retained and a 2020 3rd isn't unfair. They get Ladd at a reasonable $4.5M for 4 more seasons and the Isles get Kovalchuk and get rid of Ladd, as well as clear a roster spot two years sooner than they would have if they kept Ladd. Kovalchuk would be a RW-bridge to Wahlstrom, essentially.

Yeah I'm not giving up any real assets for a 35yo player making $6.25M for two more years, unless the Kings are eating half of his salary. Even then I wouldn't want to give up very much.
- eichiefs9

Exactly! Do you think the Sens would go for Bailey, #1 and someone like Aho for Duchene or Stone?

Yea and if ladd is dumped still have room in July to go after bigger fish. Panarin may like kovy here as he doesn't speak the best English and kovy is a legend in Russia or at least one of the top players to come out of there

The PP dynamic would be interesting. He'd have to take Barzal's spot on the LW half-wall so he could hammer one-timers, but you'd probably want Barzal to be the guy feeding him, not Leddy playing the top.

I think Kovy would buy into what is going on here and would go through a wall for Lou & Trotz especially getting out of LA

Definitely not against picking him up, but they would absolutely need to send back some salary or have the Kings eat the max 50%. I would hate to pick him up only to have them miss out on being able to be serious contenders for Panarin/Duchene/Stone.

I agree and I think if anything he would be a fall back guy if Lou doesn't do anything bigger. Like trade for Kovy at 2:59pm on deadline day

This is an article but the title alone sums up big trades

Name the only two players in the last 15 years who were rentals who cost a first-round pick and actually won a Stanley Cup with their new team.

The answer and much more on dealing first rounders: https://t.co/bP18aJDTTK

Yeah, probably wouldn't hurt to have a little leverage with Jarmo if he is seriously trying to acquire Panarin

Pretty much tells us Lou should not go all in on Panarin, Duchene, or Stone.

According to that article it was Vermette and Tomas Kaberle, with the '15 Hawks/Broons respectively

If you go to the comments someone called him on it and he said that he didn't feel it was a "trade deadline" move, despite being a rental, because it happened something like 6 weeks before the deadline.

Yeah, but Weight was traded (with a prospect) for Jesse Boulerice, Mike Zigomanis, a prospect, a 1st round pick and two 4th round picks and was a UFA at the end of the year, re-siging with the Blues after winning the cup.

If that isn't a rental I don't know what is.

#Isles Barry Trotz said Dal Colle-Barzal-Bailey line has been a bit "disconnected" the last couple of games. "It's not just one person on that line." Met with a couple of guys on the line to talk about their game. He believes they'll be "a lot better" tonight at #CBJ

If he had to specify that it's not one person...it's probably one person. If you need to be clear that you're not referring to the guy everyone can see is dragging that line down....he's protecting the guy that's dragging that line down

Kovulchuk can still play. They’ll want the second (which I’m ok with)
