He'd be dirt cheap. I don't know if I love him in a regular spot though.

I think Pageau/Dzingel are the best options for the Isles. Silfverberg is an intriguing option too. He's not having a good season but the Ducks have been crushed with injuries and he might be cheap. He won't put up a ton of points but he's a 20+ goal scorer and he could turn it around here. Problem is he'd be playing with Filppula/Komarov who don't exactly ooze offense.

Leo and Fili are a tough fit. I still think it's hard to tell about MDC playing on that lines with these players.

Isles will be in a tough spot for trades. They don't have their own 2nd/3rd/potentially 4th round picks this year (they will likely have CGY's 2nd, which figures to be a late one).

Yep! This will not be like Garth not wanting to give up anything. Cannot blame Lou not wanting to move Dobson, Wilde, or Wahlstrom.

My guess is the play of Wilde (and Toews, Pulock) will make Dobson expendable for the right guy. Lou is not Garth... I don't see him just getting a 3rd line depth guy.

Yeah that article was kind of sobering I guess. Not willing to give up any of our recent top picks unless it’s for someone substantial with term and I don’t see that happening. I can see Hagelin or maybe Pageau nothing that’s going to bend us over too much and I’m fine with that I’m more of a pitcher anyway.
- Cptmjl

I never thought they'd be big players at the deadline. I think they're going to try and add a guy that fits the Lou/Trotz mold and can score a bit to bolster that 3rd line LW spot. I don't think the prudent thing to do, at this point in time, would be to start throwing assets all over the place.

So I’m looking at the Islanders - I think Panarin would love to play with Mat Barzal. I’m looking at even the Philadelphia Flyers, depending on what happens. I didn’t know this, maybe you guys did and it slipped under my radar - apparently Philadelphia came real close to acquiring Panarin at the draft last year.

Dobson and Wilde are two entirely different (and complimentary) players. I'm willing to move Dobson but I'm not so sure I'd start throwing his name around a lot. He's a damn fine prospect.

I honestly think, at this point, that Wilde is our top prospect. Wahlstrom's season has been, mostly, a let-down. Dobson just got off an atrocious team in the Q and his production is starting to reflect that. Wilde has been the most consistently high-end kid we have in the pipeline so far, save for Sorokin who's a lot older.

Yeah I'd say, at most, they add a bottom-6 winger and maybe a depth defenseman to push Sbisa out. Otherwise, keep the prospects and let's see what we can swing in the offseason. If Sorokin comes over and they add someone with Panarin's talent...Isles will start becoming a hell of a lot more attractive to UFA's.

Sounds like a plan. Sorokin and Panarin would make a fine offseason.

I'm not sure about Wilde being better then Dobson. Don't forget Wilde is 19 playing against younger kids. Not saying he won't be good but I can't put too much stock into his numbers this year. There is a reason IMO that Dobson was rated higher then Wilde and also drafted before Wilde

Dobson is almost exactly the same age (both are January 2000 birthdays) and playing against the same aged kids. I'm not saying Dobson stinks at all, but Wilde has posted eye-popping numbers. He's tied with Merkley for second overall in scoring by defensemen in the OHL and he's played two less games than him, as well as the overager who's in first. You can make a real strong argument that the OHL is a much better league than the Q, also.

As a point of reference, Adam Boqvist (8th overall to CHI in the same draft as Dobson/Wilde) has posted 35pts in 33GP (tied for 10th overall in the OHL) playing with London. Boqvist was supposed to be one of the top offensive defensemen in the entire draft.

I really want the big splash move but panarin and duchene can be had for money only after the season and I'm not sure (they won't) either of them will put them over the top so why give away assets that can be kept?

Exactly. I think the Isles success, coupled with Barry and Lou running the show is going to make them infinitely more attractive to free agents. I think Panarin and Duchene is a bit of a pipedream, but adding Panarin would be absolutely massive. Would probably make for some really tough decisions though. They'd probably have to keep Nelson and that might mean saying goodbye to Lee, unless he takes a big discount.

My bad I thought Dobson just turned 18. Either way I hope they both turn out to be studs

I agree. Seems a big move will be tough at the deadline. Rather make the big move in FA.

You think so? Give Panarin JT's money and let Eberle walk and you still have plenty to sign Lee IMO. Also think Lou will get crafty and lose a bad contract even if means giving up a good draft pick or prospect

This is obviously not a serious comment, but I could see them being the perfect pairing. Dobson being steady, solid defensively and able to start the play with a good first pass and Wilde being the risk-taker that plays like a 4th forward.

I will maintain this until I'm proven wrong: I think if Wilde can play average defense in the NHL and continue to post really strong offensive numbers...he'll be a legitimate superstar. He has everything else. He's 6'4", skates like the wind, has a great shot, and plays with an edge. It's a bold prediction, but I really believe it. I think he's gonna be awesome.

I'm just saying it might. I don't want it to, but $11M AAV is gonna mean they have to squeeze someone somewhere. It'll depend on how much, if at all, the cap goes up too. Eberle is definitely a goner and his $6M will go a long way for sure. But if they don't sign a better 2C, they'll have to keep Nelson around too. Otherwise they have jack shit for that center spot.

This is exactly why I hate the (frank)ing Komarov contract. That $3M might not seem like much, but it adds up quickly.

Problem is that Barzal is going to be due a mega-deal after next season. Everything they do is going to have to have an eye on the future for that contract.

Pulock will be due another contract that offseason as well.

Also, if Sorokin comes here next year he'll be on a one year ELC and will be looking for a big raise in the same summer. He's not moving halfway across the world and leaving KHL-millions for nothing.

This is when they are going to feel the effects of the Clutterbuck, Ladd & Boychuck deals. Gotta hope Lou can move a bad contract or two or hope that Ladd spends the next 4 years on LTIR

Would have been nice for JHS to show something than the Isles could really focus on 2C.
