So how does Duchene not practicing with the team help his case with other teams? He is coming off a down year and now clearly is putting his own interests first. Who wants to trade the ransom Sakic wants for you when you are all about yourself and have had a subpar year like he has had? It would be something completely different if he had just won the MVP, a scoring title, led the team in something other than negative +/-, etc. I know he is pissed at the way this has been handled, but my God, help yourself out rather than sulking in Toronto and show that you can put distractions and disagreements aside for the betterment of your team.

Rant over.

With how Duchene is handling this, the pressure is mounting on Sakic to get something done. This reminds me a little of last fall with Winnipeg and Trouba. Although he was an RFA and Dutch still has 2 years left, both players did not report to camp and were/are ready to wear new colors. I hope we trade with either Columbus or Carolina.

We all love Sakic and it's easy to sit back and say, "Sakic is a smart, capable "hockey guy" and we'll give him the benefit of the doubt".

The thing is, Sakic really hasn't DONE anything as MANAGEMENT to warrant the same "loyalty" we are so willing to give him as a former super-star and fan favorite.

The really FRUSTRATING part is, between Stastny, ROR, and now Duchene, we've either lost, traded or otherwise possibly alienated a HUGE part of what many of us long-time fans who have suffered through this drought had thought was going to be the CORE of our "rebuilding efforts" moving forwards.

Now, in all fairness, nobody except Sakic and Duchene REALLY knows what is going on behind the scenes between Sakic and Duchene. Ek might be a hockey-guy at heart but fact is (like most websites these days) he is more interested in CLICKS than in the TRUTH so... Who REALLY knows...

As a fan of the Avs, Duchene and just NHL hockey in general, at THIS point, I REALLY just want to see a little STABILITY in the Avs organization.

We really need a "win" and I don't mean a 3-2 overtime win vs the Wild (although, those are great) but I'm talking about a PROVERBIAL win OFF the ice that gives the fans some confidence we ARE headed in the right direction and shows that current management has an actual PLAN and isn't just "winging it".

Because at the end of the day, if it IS true this organization has managed to alienate a classy player like Duchene and doesn't end up getting full-value in return, heads really do need to roll (even if they happen to be Hall of Fame heads).

No one looks great here. Avs, Sakic, or Duchene. All are at fault if it comes down this, however Duchene really hasnt done himself any favours the past few weeks with saying how he basically quit on the team in January/February when the losing piled on the trade winds were blowing. Now he is upset he hasnt been traded bc he was "mentally ready" to move on

I love Matt too, hes one of my all time favorite Avs but thats some horse poop from him. Be a Pro and Proud memeber of this team. He must be getting some bad advice from somewhere bc him saying those things now does not align with how Duchene has handled himself for years.

I disagree with your stabliity point...its not great but lets not foreget where this team was 3 years ago. We had a farm system, Brad Malone and Brandon Yip...

This team has a legit farm system now and its slowly been moving to a roster being populated with their own drafted adn developed guys.

Stastny and ROR hurt, but 1 they misread the market and thought he would stay, the other wanted otu of the Avs bc he was upset he wasnt named capatain and giving a long term contract off his ELC. It sucks but sometimes its not always the taem who does wrong by the player.

Agreed, for a guy that's done everything by the book this seems out of character for Dutch. Stastny milked the Avs organization throughout his tenure here and cashed in after his contract year expired. I'm happy he's gone. Orielly is a hell of a player but never wanted to be here after he wasn't awarded the "C" and negotiations with Sherman soured.

We have a great crop of young players coming up, I'm really excited seeing Jost and Compher for a full season. Rantanen should score a few more goals, Andrighetto looks very promising. Yakupov wants to prove himself, we have 2 free agent NCAA forwards that chose to sign here, and we still have Mackinnon and Landeskog.

I've been such a big Duchene fan since day one and it sucks that this is where he's at, but I'd rather win with players that want to play here.
