Carol Schram: Sizing Up the First Half of the Vancouver Canucks 2017-18 Schedule The schedule-maker showed some unusual generosity to the Vancouver Canucks for the 2017-18 season.

Markstrom, Gaunce, Subban and Cassels all deserve a chance. It's time to let these blue chippers prosper
- CanuckDon

Markstrom deserves a chance for sure, no question, he was kinda screwed over last year.
Gaunce imo was given his chance for 20 games in 2015 and 57 last year, the kid is horrific, we have to move on, it literally cant be any worst. I'd rather see the same amount of games/chance given to Archibald, Rodin or Labate. hell even Chaput is better.
Cassels is terrible, he's never been the same player since his ab injury. He'll never make it, not with guys like McEwen, Gadjovich, Virtanen, comnig through, even Valk or Kunyk should get a shot before him.
With the addition of Weircoich, Holm and OJ I don't see where Subban will ever fit in. I think Stetcher turned the lights out on his chance. Unless he shows some massive development this year. He'll be an AHL lifer like Pedan.

Subban is a righty, in system full of lefties, he could still get a shot, but I doubt he ever will

Tanev, Stetcher and Guddy are obviously ahead of him, I guess the only other ones are Biega, Chatfield, thats about the only thing Subban has going for him.

Who was worse: Gaunce in 77 NHL games, or Linden Vey in 116 NHL games

Thanks Carol. Perhaps with less back to back games there will be less injuries.

Sharing two morsels from Canucks Army Burke:

1) "I’d look at signing Jaromir Jagr to a one year deal to play him with the Sedin twins and flip at the deadline."

Sounds like the slowest and oldest line in modern NHL history. But can they score? Discuss...

2) "I think it’s Brendan Gaunce who’s going to surprise everyone. If he can become even an average skater, Gaunce is capable of putting up somewhere between 10-15 goals a season. He’s far too smart a player to remain this unproductive."

So, for soon to be 24yro, Guance, is it possible to improve his skating enough?

We have enough roster players at every position, I understand spending to the cap, and maybe acquiring a cheap UFA with the intention of flipping at TDL, but the Canucks first priority should be getting Horvat signed. 8 million left, not saying he will cost that much, but you don't want to be investing cap into Jagr without Horvat signed.

Interesting read on first time coaches and the trend of "players coaches". I wasnt huge on the Green hiring, but I do appreciate him sticking to his guns about being HC and not taking assistant positions. Getting comfortable making the tough calls and not babying/being pals with players was a good thing to remain consistent on

Subban.

If Rathbone hasnt been penciled into a future line up by this time next year, we will know that it was the Subban last name driving the hype. If he is, then we know that Canuck fans really love their longshot prospects

Now that Yzerman has signed all his RFAs and moved Drouin for a bluechip prospect, i think he's proved all the haters wrong (again).

Just think he's a fairly good GM, seems like he's often in a tight space, but always manages to stickhandle his way outta trouble.

I think he did well for the tight position he was in. But I am not convinced he is out of the woods yet. I was among a few others that thought FLA locked in a solid core that a year later has been dismantled.

I think they will regret the Drouin move long term and several of the large contracts handed out, especially if they fall short of a Cup
