But exactly when their roster reconstruction resumes now seems dependent on how and when the Hossa situation works out—in terms of the league's "acceptance" of the validity of the underlying medical issue. As I hear it, once the Hawks and a trading partner are assured Hossa will end up on LTIR, the shackles come off.

What timeframe are we looking at for a deal, next week or two?

Cuz what I am wondering here is if this drags on, a trade or two becomes less likely, and then we're looking at in-season, closer to the TDL.

Is the NHL dragging it's feet on this decision to hamper the Hawks plans as a pseudo punishment to satisfy the other whiny owners?

That is my strong suspicion.

Any word on who that "high prospect" might be?
TVR would be a solid bottom pair RD heading into the season; helps stabilize the D.

So thought here:

Does getting TVR back help getting his brother in a trade? I thought I saw another post where Babcock said something to the effect of "we have 4 guys looking for extensions but only 2 will get them" and JVR's name was in the mix there.

Not saying he would be the preferred piece but does getting his brother back help get him here?

Still a good amount of RFA and UFA players out there. Good ones too. But it makes you wonder... what the (frank) is taking the league so long with this decision?

Still hoping for a Tyler Johnson, Evander Kane, Ryan Dzingel, or middle six LW who can skate with Kane and provide some space.

poop... E Kane with P Kane is easily 60+ goals between the two.

Just another idiotic loop hole that needs to be fixed in the next CBA, just like the college free agent mess. I don't understand, for the life of me, why players who play for teams acquiring dead money contracts don't revolt, knowing that money is going to someone who may never go to war with them and it is keeping them from getting their fair share.

If the league is pissed at the Hawks concerning Hossa I'd love to see salt rubbed in that wound by getting back the guy they lost in the expansion draft!!

Wonder how Carolina has Debrincat rated? One thing we know for sure is they are short of finishers. .............. Love the thought of getting a TVR type in the D rotation. Somehow the defense needs to be addressed.

They can revolt, leave as a UFA when they gain that status. In the mean time a Carolina, AZ or Florida stays solvent due to the parity of a flat (earth) cap opening up 69 NHL roster spots not to mention AHL spots.

You are actually concerned they wouldn't take DeBrincat in this trade scenario? The Hawks are not bargaining from a completely "leverageless" position here and thus DeBrincat does NOT need to be included. This is insane we're going to spend another 5 days talking about it now.

Surprised by all the TVR love. He was one of last year's whipping boys on this site for his lack of foot speed and physicality.

He's average, bottom pairing guy. Hawks have plenty of those. But people are getting worked up over another rumor board speculation and have him penciled into the lineup. Hawks could use a middle pairing guy.

Agreed, This team needs a 4 D, not another 5-6.

Yep and it's POSSIBLE Murhphy and Kempny will do fine in said roles, but we are not sure. We know TVR is clearly a bottom pairing guy. Those guys are a dime a dozen. He's fine, but not gonna change the Hawks much. And certainly should NOT be a piece of any deal involving the Hawks top prospect.

I mean if the NHL rules Hossa can go on LTIR, the Hawks gain their own amount of leverage (iow IF they ruled Hossa could NOT go on LTIR, THEN I could see the Hawks needing to add in high pieces to move him). But if he can go on LTIR, ZERO reason to go crazy over it. They could also work out a deal FOR the start of the season with some team.

Also, the ONLY reason the Hawks would need this cap space NOW is if they were adding a big money player without giving up one. This would involve multiple good prospects. Another angle that doesn't add up. None of this adds up at all.

I have enjoyed the Carolina, Chicago trading relationship. GMRF has amassed the pieces from the relationship to help us turn from bad contract absorber to competitor. I don't mind a trade with Chicago but we are looking to compete this year. TVR isn't a vital cog in team but he is needed to help us improve from last year. The trade propsed doesn't help being competitive. Wouldn't LTIR take him out of your cap hit? If you're looking for years 2-4 relief, his cap hit actually hurts the Canes. Our cap will grow 20% over the next 2 seasons with re-signing Slavin, Pesce, Hanifin, TVR, Skinner, Aho, Lindholm, TT, and Fleury.

A LOT of players are better than Rosi and you don't need to package a top prospect to get them either.

then you still have to do it next year and the year after that and the year after that, which means that you need to have ($5.2m - salary cap increase) worth of salary expiring each year that you don't want coming back OR you need to dump salary each year again and that sucks.

it isn't a package to get TVR, it's a package to get rid of the Hossa salary now because it improves the chances of putting together a better roster.

edit: the Blackhawks would get something coming back in the ballpark of value equivalent to TVR so why not TVR?

In 3 years it may not matter anyway. I say worry about this year now. Maybe Hossa comes back. Maybe the cap goes up. Maybe higher salaried players are traded. The Hawks have always been a "this season" team of late. Will this change?

This is also a lesson to not overspend on your roster. The flexibility so many want now is now impossible because the Hawks are unable to show restraint in signing their players.

Yes, I'm curious, not concerned, whether or not they would take Debrincat and a lower draft pick instead of a higher draft pick and lower prospect along with Hossa.

Today I'm not optimistic about Debrincat and his big OHL numbers as a 19-20 yr old at the big league level. If the Hawks are of that mindset as well his value will never be higher than right now. And if Carolina sees it differently I'd love to see the Hawks target Slavin. ............Indeed the Hawks are not leverageless but if they don't think Debrincat is an answer at the NHL level they will lose leverage on that asset monthly if that assessment proves accurate.

Another way to look at Stan's moves this year is that he hasn't done much at all regarding cap structure.
Gave up Kruger for nothing, which has been the worst kept secret for a year, maybe more.
Saad/Panarin was a $6m for $6m move.
Hammer for Murphy saved I think $300k.
They went into the offseason with an unsustainable core of 9 players making $60m.
The only resolution Stan has found for that so far is the result of a skin condition, not Stan's good work.
If they trade or LTIR Hossa, they need to replace him with 2-3 players at $2m, not another at $5m.

IF a player like Fluery or Slavin is involved then YES I am interested. No way Hanifin is part of the mix.
