Is Sakic Serious About Dealing Duchene? The word around the league this morning is one of frustration and angst...It is normal for a GM to stick to his guns but Sakic isn't really even negotiating when it comes to Duchene...according to multiple sources, "his asking price of a current top D man, draft pick and prospects has been met by at least two, maybe three teams." Some are also questioning if the fact that Colorado has an absentee owner is allowing Sakic to let Duchene dangle..."There is no checks and balances."

Sakic starting to approach Garth Snow territory of worst GM. He needs to trade Duchene and Barrie while he can. start the rebuild.

Sakic owes nothing to any team outside of Avalanche. He sets criteria for trade and should hold out for getting best deal on his time and terms like buying a car. It gets cheaper the longer you negotiate

Strangely enough I think he needs to take the Edmonton approach here. Look at the offers and take the best one available. Whatever idealistic trade Sakic imagines isn't going to happen. Bringing back basically the exact same team with a frustrated Duchene is a recipe for a toxic situation that is not going to play out well.

no. bad analogy. in his situation there are only a limited # of buyers. if teams start to fill their rosters and the lower # of buyers there are - the lower the price they are willing to pay goes.

Sakic should have moved Duchene either at Trade Deadline or at the draft. if you dont actually want to trade him. Say that, and stop taking offers.

They need to put the deals on the table, for all to see. So sick and tired of hearing about what joe did and didn't accept. Then for it to all be debunked again. If he is turning down TRUE deals for Young D roster player, Top D prospect, and 1st round picks, he is crazy. But I doubt that is what is happening. Just BS media rumors.

I agree. He created the problem by letting everyone know that he intends to trade Duchene. He set the price too high, and now he has cornered himself into a box. He HAS to trade Duchene because the player is pissed at him and that will create a toxic situation, and at the same time he doesnt like the offers he is getting.

I would tend to agree. it is probably he has a deal for 1 of the above, not all 3 from 1 team.

You're right , but you don't go shopping a player around making it public knowledge and then giving up because you came to the conclusion no one is giving a kings ransom...

Right now Pat Brisson is livid and I wonder what is the mind set of Duschene going into next season if he's still in Denver. Take it from me , you never get the just value when dealing a star player , see Rick Nash, eventually the cbj caved .

Which is fine but he isnt looking for the best deal. He is selling at an unreasonable price. Duchene is a good player but he is not Elite. He does not command that type of price tag. Sakic is trying to Sell a Honda Vehicle like it is a Ferarri

Where has it been said that Duchene is pissed? or even his agent? Duchene's instagram has been littered with him wearing Avs clothing.

If Sakic isn't going to move him he needs to sit down with Duchene before training camp and say "listen, it's a business, I was entertaining offers to help better the club but we want you here and would love to have you stay"

Why should Sakic go below his asking price? What reason does he have? He doesn't HAVE to move Duchene

I agree, this is getting out of hand. I'm all for holding out for the right deal, but at what point is too late, TOO late and Duchene's agent requests publicly that he be traded. Then Sakic's hand is forced and all these pissed of GM's have their way with Sakic. At which point I'm sure the Avs get a minimal return.

This secret, denying comment, playing keep away bulls__t is long past tolerable. I really hope Sakic doesn't botch this whole situation.

simple fact is Joe isn't capable of being an nhl GM and if he makes it through the midway point of next season then I'll be shocked.

Garth snow is dumb but he doesn't really dangle other GMs around, he still plays the game, Joe doesn't want to play the game and it never ends well for people who don't understand taking less now to get more later, relationship building and all that good stuff...

i mean toronto and anaheim make deals that consist of 2 trades 3 months apart....

Isles feel pressured to trade for Duchene so they can keep their top center happy. Sakic is trading his top center and no matter what he gets in return, no guarantee he can replace the top vet center with a prospect etc. Both teams have the pressure on them but Saki is under more pressure.

You are right, and in this case the return that Joe will get will be cheaper.

Your reasoning is completely flawed as well, besides the fact you only have a limited amount of teams that can even bid on him. As for your car, you are not getting a better deal. It is the same deal, you are simply paying less money for a car that is worth less from when you started looking.

Now is the time to trade Duchene while he has two years left on his deal. The offers will only get worse as time goes on.

This is exactly right. Especially if some how he doesn't get traded by the trade deadline this year. Then, if Duchene or his agent make it public he wants out, now all you have is a 1 year rental. What do you get then? a first?

Sakic as GM is (frank)ing idiot. He is either not listening to any advisors or has surrounded himself with idiots.

Either keep your talent or listen to reasonable offers.

Or even worse, he doesn't request trade, gives the Av's 2 years of mediocre hockey, then walks. I truly don't believe either of these scenarios will happen, because I still think Duchene wants to be here. But at this point I'm nervous anything can happen, even super unfavorable play-outs. I just want to know what exactly Sakic is looking for, because if I were GM a few of these deals would have already gone down...

I guess thats why hes GM and I'm not!

Bottom line - Sakic is jerking these GMs around. I know Jarmo is a straight shooter and understands you have to give-to-get (see Ryan Johannsen for Seth Jones), and would put together the requested package. I suspect that Sakic is asking for the moon.
Let him play with the same basic core as last year - that went so well.

Great point. Snow was just dumb..Garth never messed with other teams for days and weeks.

And Sakic better make a move sooner than later.

Because when a team decides to bow out of this potential trade...you can bet a GM like Jarmo will contact David Poile in Nashville and say, "David, we are bowing out. So go ahead and lower your offer to Colorado."

This would only happen if a GM is playing games like this for weeks upon weeks.

Sakic will not only get less than what he could have...but Joe is setting up a bad reputation in the NHL Management circles.
