As someone that didnt want Franson from the start I do think that Nelson having early success could provide and nice push from franson.
He is not a bad player when put in the right situations.

Regarding nelson... Id almost rather him play a little in rochester to start and play top pair minutes. Allow them to see what hes got in all situations

The best thing about Franson is that he'll be gone by the end of this season, if not sooner. If Murray can trade him for a 7th round pick, then I say "do it". The next best thing would be for that inner ear/vertigo issue to re-emerge and he is put on the LTIR. Harsh? Yes. Obviously I am not a fan of Franson. The sooner he is off the roster, the better.

End of rant.

nelson has the tools and temperament, but he needs to learn how to deal with the size and style of professional players...needs to bulk up a little as well

Trump keeps saying these are " the worst deals in history" nah letting Chris Drury and Daniel Briere walk was the worst.

Eh. I don't think he's that terrible. We've had worse, IMO. His skating is a concern, that's for sure. My nickname for him is Cody "Concrete Feet" Franson. I think in general he does bring a bit of something to the lineup that we need, but he didn't seem to generate that much of it last year. Hopefully we see something different this year.

Think about it this way, if he has a decent year, maybe Murray can manage to get something better than a 7th rounder at the deadline. Win/win if you ask me.

Agreed, we are finally at a point where we dont need to rush any prospects.

Her certainly has good verteran attributes that he doesn't get enough credit for, but in a 7 games series his flaws could be exposed badly.

Where have I heard this before?

Oh, right. It's all the same stuff that's been said about Pysyk for years. Pysyk never really did bulk up at all though. Which I think is part of why they decided to move on from him. He wasn't one of Murray's "prototype guys."

I'm a bit interested to see if him coming into camp more lean has helped his skating at all. That is really his Achilles heel. The rest of his game is actually pretty solid.

point taken, but one of the big differences from what little we saw of nelson was his comfort-level at the point on the powerplay...nelson's wheel's were churning but he's looked very calm out there

Idk as a pysyk fan and seeing him in the panthers roster i think he got moved because he was just average.
we were so bad for so long that he stood out but in reality i dont think he's an impact top 4 guy on a good team

franson on the bottom pair is the least of our problem

franson on the pp is not the solution

I'd say Nelson looked calmer than risto the last few weeks of the season

he deserves a spot in the lineup every night IMO

We've seen that out of guys coming in for their first stint late in the year though before as well. It'll be interesting to keep an eye on him and see what happens.
