Ty Anderson: The Martin Jones trade was not a mistake for Bruins - tyanderson
Ty must read our comments and get inspiration for new articles.
Looking forward to one about this year's draft and the young kids we might take. I'm convinced that #14 will be Julien Gauthier this year. "heavier on the right side".....Thoughts? |

I'm surprised any Bruins fan would question that trade.
Yeah, Sharks are playing great right now, and a lot of that credit has to go to Jones. But going back to the day that trade was made - a lot of Sharks fans really cringed at giving up a 1st round pick for Jones.
That's a lot to give up for a guy who hadn't really proved himself as a starter. Hell if Jones didn't work out or the Sharks as a team regressed further from their 2015/16 form, Bruins might have been holding themselves a lottery pick.
It was a really good trade for the Bruins. A really risky one for the Sharks, but so far is looking pretty good for both teams.

There was plenty of questions on the San Jose side also. A first rounder for a guy with 34 games was questioned well into November here. There was an article that this was a Doug Wilson save my job trade.
Wilson locked in on Jones early and was probably ready to offer sheet him.
Boston got a prospect and a lottery ticket (lower than anyone thought) for a unknown goalie. A risky but fair deal for both sides.

Look Jones is playing lights out right now and confidence has a huge part of it along with the SJ D - when the trade was made Most people me included thought the B's did well with what they got in the LA/SJ package.. you have to look at the whole trade - I still think the B's made out damn well with the Lucic trade - how they ultimately used those chips ... those returns remain to be seen - |

Ty,
do you really think boston could have gotten a 9th overall for jones in a draft just as deep as any?? give me a break. I always valued your opinions on the buzzcast but comments like these will force me to take more of the things you say with a grain of salt. |

Confidence has never been an issue for Jones. He's such a stable goalie and rarely out of position. His foundation is what keeps the pucks out. He displayed this time and time again with the Kings.
Was it a bad move on Boston? No. They already had/have a first class goalie in Rask. They didn't and don't need Jones. They absolutely received a fair trade in the first pick and SJ paid a fair price for him. Some of the SJ fans didn't like it because they didn't know, at the time what they got. I would bet they do now. Simple as that. |

Hypothetically speaking, what would the return and benifit have been if the Bruins delt Rask and his 7 million salary to the Sharks instead of Jones? I'm certain it would have been better than the return we got for Jones. With that being said, I don't think it would have put us in a playoff position given the lack of experience on the back end this year, but it would have set us up to be in a better position moving forward in order to aquire the high priced defensive help which we so sorely need.
I'm not poopting on the return for Jones. I think we made out well in that respect, but I think the club would have been better served dealing Tuukka. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.
I also think that the Lucic deal was great. I bet I'm part of the minority who believes Don did well on the Hamilton deal as well. 3 for 1 is a good deal especially when you consider that all 3 kids picked will suit up and contribute to our future success.
I think the future looks bright, but it could have been better.
Now please, go ahead and parlay your counter argument. I truly enjoy the cyber banter. |

Are people really questioning this? Seems like a no brainer to me, Rask is an elite Vezina level goalie who is still in his prime. Jones might get there but is right now benefitting from a great team in front of him. No way the Bruins should have dealt rask unless they were doing a full tear down rebuild. |

The only moves I'd be critical of through all this would be the choices made at the draft. Better choices could've been made. I think management were scrambling a bit after their gamble to get one of the Dmen didnt pan out. That being said.... They're all still kids so who really knows how that's all gonna play out.
Rask is the guy. In my mind he's still potentially a top 5 tender. Moving Jones for a 1st was a no brainer at the time. At this point it's smart to accelerate the rebuild. There's still a few good pieces up front. Character guys. Lots of options in this draft to add good future core guys where the Bruins will be picking.
Don't see how you guys let Loui walk away at this point. Hard to see him playing elsewhere imo.

Wait, someone is actually saying the Bruins should not have traded Jones for a 1st round pick+? That return is insane for an unproven goalie. Add to the fact that Boston had absolutely no use for him this was a huge win of a trade for Boston.
Luckily for San Jose this deal paid off for them but this could have easily been a bust. |

Anyone watching the Memorial Cup? Lauozn looks fantastic! - shoreorrpark
Really like his game. Hopefully it doesn't take him long to translate it to the next level. Bruins need that kind of play |

He's very aware of his defensive shortcomings and strives to be a more complete player. That in itself is a good indicator of where his head is at. He and Carlo would make a great pairing. |

Correct me if I am wrong. Reading some of the comments here it reminds me of the Oiler management of a few years ago. They were dominated by ex Oiler players and they seemed intent on remaking the team into a later version of their earlier player days. It ended up that everyone in the front office were Oiler alumni and nobody was able to stop everything and say, "there might be a better way!" |
