bill any thoughts as to why berube didn't even take on an assistants role or any type of coaching role this year?

However, he did not magically turn things around simply due to a change behind the bench. Hakstol made Read a healthy scratch a couple times (something that Berube did not do, while mincing no words that he was among the players from whom the Flyers needed more). A year after Berube's dismissal, the Flyers are still waiting for Read to recover the form he showed in his first and third NHL seasons.

And I think they're going to be waiting a long time to see the Read of old on the ice...he just doesn't seem to be there any longer.

I for one was never as confident in Berube as I am with Hak, and obviously that's an impression from a mile high as I never met either man or watched them run a practice or interact with their players. Either way, Berube's out and Hak is in. Looking forward to next season to see how things develop.

Worse coaches than Chief have gotten second shots in the league -- others may disagree, but I still think Hextall kinda screwed him. Gave him zero help with that roster last year

I would argue that if berube had neuvirth as a backup last year they would have won another 5 games as well. And he didn't have kimmo or coburn (not to mention ghost). To keep that team in it until Boston game was as much as anyone could expect.

Berube wasn't a horrible coach and I did think he planted lots of seeds for the success hakstol had in theos team playing a relentless two way game. It wasn't such a splash of cold water that it would've been had he taken over from lavy. He's a better coach than some German league

Clarke did good things as GM. Same with Homer. But would you want them instead of Hexy right now?

Bill drops the hammer.

Actually this should be an interesting day. There are really only a handful of irrational Berube haters in here so it should end up being a good discussion......I hope

The answer is no, but I don't think that was even remotely his point.

IMO, Berube did have a good read on players, but his undoing was the fact that our young guys didn't progress under him. Some of the young guys even seemed to regress with him. Maybe it was being a year older, but I though Hakstol did a good job getting Coots, Schenn, and Gudas to improve their games.

If Berube had a stud like Weal, he would have played him 97 games a year.

My point was few are true tire fires, most do some good things, are competent, etc., but their time is done. Time to move on.

Berube was a better coach than Bill Barber, in my opinion.

There's a lot of times where a fanbase misunderstands what a coach is trying to do with a player decision. I thought that the period of time that Berube scratched Del Zotto was a little too long, but overall, Berube helped make Del Zotto into a better player, and sent him on the path he took to become more than just a player who gambled on the rush and put up points. As always, the player himself deserves most of the credit. Now with how Del Zotto has developed his play away from the puck, if he can take the next step and learn how to phase back in the point producing part of his game, he could be even better.
As far as Akeson, the thought that he wasn't given a chance by Berube, was just false.
Honestly, though, Berube is in the past, and Hakstol is here now. I think he had a good year, but we'll see how he does long term. One of the biggest factors is how a team buys into how a coach wants a team to play. The buy in seems to be stronger with Hakstol that it did with Berube. At least compared to Berube's second year.

I remember one, only one, time that Stevens blew up in game behind the bench. It was alarming, I assumed he was going to go onto the ice and beat the piss out of the ref.

No in that case, Hakstol just didn't trust Medvedev, which I totally agree with. Each player is an individual, and each situation has it's own variables.
