The Coyotes' drafting of Conor Garland is another example.

You cannot write off a player based on what you think they should've done in the CHL when he hasn't even played a pro game yet. The Jackets have seen something (potential) in him to move him to the AHL/possibly the NHL and that's what matters.

Why not sign him? Costs you very little. Just don't draft these guys

Because it takes up one of your 50 contract slots. Not worth it for a low upside player.

I think that you're severely underrating the value of a defensive-minded forward prospect. Maybe he turns into a decent 3rd/4th line penalty killer, any team that has aspirations to win needs guys like that. His build also is not out of place in the NHL.

Doesn't a team need an identity it's going to play with? A coach that will enforce this identity? At the moment it seems like your team just wants to bash the poop out of every opponent (or at least the Pens), & win that way intimidating & just being mongrel dogs. So signing 'little' players won't fit the system very well.

This guys got size, could be he is exactly what the Jackets want to continue their journey & current identity? How many PIM has he got??

I'm sorry, but that is a sad commentary on your team. the CBJ wants to be a physical, hard-hitting team with a tough forecheck. Your team does not like that kind of play, so you attack the CBJ as a bunch of hoods. Sorry, no sale.

wonder what the buyout penalty is if they need to release this guy from the AHL. Not that I'm not hoping it doesn't pan out for him , but as someone mentioned it chews up a contract slot.

Yes I noticed that when Sid was cross checked to the ground then had Dubinsky break his stick on his back, or when Prout completely lost control & cross checked Plot in the head about 4 times. That certainly is an example of your hard hitting tough forechecking physical flea ridden team!!

It's a pity really, because there is some real talent on the roster that could play a great game! As I said, a team needs an identity with a coach that will enforce it.
