This team not only has coaching issues, but has issues in the way they were constructed.

Watching the Isles attack, when they are 100% the are effective, but take a little bit off and it was easy for teams to defend against the same simple minded offensive game. NHL hockey like the NFL is about physical endurance but also playmakng and minimzing or capitalizing on mistakes. Like last year's pre Christmas Habs game and post Christmas Buffalo debacle, the old pattern is emerging.

I'm not sure if it's the way the team's constructed, I think it's more that several players are underperforming so far this year (Lee, Strome, JT) and if those guys were at the same level as last year we'd be a LOT better off, but even so, we're 8 games over 500 and fairly comfortably in a playoff position.

A win tonight and we go into the break in a good spot, and the second half of the year we just need to avoid any prolonged losing streaks.

I’d like more grit, but I think most of it right now is lack of willingness to pay the price. They can change that, but we’ll see if it happens.

What is going on with Tavares?
Led the league in scoring last year essentially and is a shadow this year?

The Isles have to get JT going. He has been nothing short of invisible the past few weeks. This team goes as he goes. That's the story with star players.

The Isles also need production from Nelson, Lee and Strome. Lee and Strome are on a less than .5 pts/game pace. Nelson is only slighly better than those two and over a .5 pts/per game pace. Its about time these three become more productive.

He had a slow start last year as well although not this slow. We're waiting for him to snap out of it

We currently have a roster than stubbornly refuses to shoot the puck. You know this isn't what is being drawn up by the Coaching staff, but the players unwillingness to listen is yet another reason as to why the staff needs a new voice.

Dan - I am not a sports psychologist but I played one on TV once and I think you just spelled it out quite clearly with two pretty good examples.

When a team is not executing the gameplan set by their coaches, there's really only two reasons to consider: Lack of talent or Lack of Desire/Interest.

I think this team has truly given up on Cappy and given up on the systems being preached. There's player funks and then there's the unexplainable drop-off in production when players are just going through the motions.. This team is looking like a team that has no coaching at all and players are just kinda doing what they please on a majority of shifts.

We are "too-close" to sometimes realize the obvious but as a friend of mine(who is not a big hockey fan) asked the other day, "So, when are the Islanders going to be a good team again?" Of course I responded with , "They are a good team—with a number of quality prospects developed and a few more in the system." His reply, "Oh, I just never hear anything about them and haven't noticed them in the playoffs, ever." Ok, so he's an outsider and not an avid hockey fan, but in the same way a child often observes a situation and draws a simple conclusion, there's merit to what he said.

The probationary period for this Coach has expired. He's proven very little other than his results are middle-of-the-pack in Wins & Loses and he gets very inconsistent play from his team—despite the talent made available to him. Being a nice guy does not make up for deficiencies at your job. Not everyone grows and improves with time & experience.

July 1st cannot come fast enough. New Owners should have new expectations.

Question for Isles fans on Dish Network, I understand MSG and SNY are not available. How do you get to watch the Isles games? Thinking of dropping TimeWarner and Fios is not available. Thanks!

It is hard to say. Doesn't appear to be hurt. On the other hand, it's not like he's snakebit either.

Whatever it is, he is in good company as it seems like half the league's star players are having trouble scoring. Sidney Crosby with 6 goals in 32 games! Kessel with 9+9 in 32 games; Stamkos with 25 points in 34 games; Voracek with 3 goals in 33 games; Getzlaf with 1 goal in 27 games!; Perry with 10+10 in 31 games; Toews with 21 points in 35 games; Hossa with 16 points in 31 games; Kopitar with 20 points in 32 games; Eric Staal with 5 goals in 33 games.

Has there ever been that long of a list of perennial star players having down years offensively all at once?

And yet, Kane, Seguin, Benn, Tarasenko, Hall, Ovechkin, Backstrom,The Sedins and several Senators are all having monster seasons, Panarin is on pace for 70+ points as a rookie, Draisaitl an even better clip (in less games) and Domi and Duclair aren't far behind, so what the hell is going on in the NHL?

More than our (the fans) personal coaching opinions or dissatisfaction with the teams' lack of playoff success, when the players aren't "buying-in" you HAVE to make the hard decision.

A new voice is needed for sure... I think the team is holding onto Cappy's system too much.. They are so worried about a defensive mishap or not finishing a check. They're not enjoying playing the game. You can see it on their faces even after the recent wins.. they look miserable... snoozefest!!!! They bunching up in the offensive zone, to many passes, dump and chase crap!! They need to open up their game.. play a run and gun game real soon 6-5 7-4 win or loss to get their excitement back in their game... that.... or a good game of pond hockey over the break.

After all these years I started sounding like my father... "Have fun out there"

Tavares desperately needs another stud to play with. Initially i was all for getting a dman for Hamonic but not anymore. 6 years later, the carousel on his wings needs to stop.

No FIOS in my area yet and no MSG and SNY on DirectTV so TimeWarner can really take advantage.

I would be happy if the Islanders worried about those things, especially not finishing a check. Their defense has actually improved this season, but the usual suspects still do not finish their checks.
