A) we don't need Bourque at all and B) we are well over the cap floor and still have to sign Huberdeau. Bourque won't make the line up here, either.

And we did NOT acquire Savard to reach the floor we did it so Boston would make the trade to give us Smith. Hayes was not going to sign here. He wanted to play in Boston; at home. Boston kind of had us by the britches in terms of Savards money. Arizona took Pronger to reach the floor. We would have reached it regardless. We aren't a budget team anymore. Besides we only actually have to pay him like $250k a year or something. And maybe he comes back and is a beast!

Fair enough. I was just spit balling a few teams who may be interested.

Maybe you didnt acquire Savard to get to the floor but you had enough space to take on a 4M cap hit. Teams with that kind of space would be able to take on Bourque.

Well yeah but Huberdeau from what I hear is asking for quite a bit. Probably Bjugstad money which is $4 million or so. If we acquire players simply because we can it just becomes a problem teams try to avoid. We don't need him. We have $20 mil off the books after this season and I'd like to see that allocated properly. I didn't mean to sound snippy. If I did I apologize.

We have, what, $12 mil or so in space right now? Save what ya can in today's' NHL in my opinion!

That's the truth. Cap space is so valuable in today's game.

Yeah it really is. It's why I'm happy Tallon has decided to draft and develop rather than go spend. I read an on the Flyers thread that you guys have a few hundred thousand in cap space and are excited about it. We have $12 million and I'm like eeeeeeeek.

Boy will it be nice to get that Campbell contract off the books. $7 mil is absolutely astonishing.

We have about $20 mil going away after this season which is going to be so nice, especially considering the nice crop of free agents available. I wouldn't be opposed to signing Soup back but for MUCH LESS money. He and his wife just had a baby so maybe he'll want to stay. His price will be much lower especially since he isn't the go to free agent on defense by far.

Age, production, and of course, he's not the cream of the crop so he'll obviously make significantly less. Assuming you factor in comfort and fit, and I'd expect him to re-sign with the Panthers but as you said, at a much lower cap hit. Maybe a 2-year, $7 mil dollar deal where he can then retire.

It'll be interesting to see how teams like Florida (who have plenty of cap space) will spend.

If we rid ourselves of Bourque then yes I am all for signing Erhoff and putting him in a reduced role.

Oh me as well; especially if we nab a playoff spot this season.

The reason ARI and FLA got Pronger and Savard isn't because they won't ever play again.

It's because of their front-loaded contracts and the big gap between their cap hit and the salary that will be paid.

Pronger and Savard will only cost the team 1-2 million dollars each will represent a cap hit of close to $4.5 million.

Campbell is getting pretty old as well... I'd stay away from him. He could bring some intangible leadership that could be really beneficial for the youngsters coming up.

We're paying Savard like $250k a season. And we really only took it so we could trade Hayes.

Yeah we have him and Mitchell coming off the books. Definitely need some sort of veteran leadership on defense. I like Campbell but he is definitely coming down in price.
