I'm not opposed to resignimg Ehrhoff as long as its a cap-friendly deal. However it wouldnt surprise me one bit if he cashes in on the fa market again in a weak D-class.

I love the idea of locking down Ehrhoff for a few more seasons and rolling out that defensive core. The six mentioned could really come out in any duo and I believe they would have success.
If Scuderi can't be traded I would not waste another second and buy him out. I'm sick of him to be honest. His soft coverage in the D zone is letting teams win board battles and letting them crash the net with ease. He only shoots on net in the lowest % situations, no traffic. If there is traffic, he puts the puck in the corner and kills momentum.

Back to Ehrhoff. His current deal was too cheap for a player of his calibre, do we see him get higher value or longer term on this next contract? (if the reports are indeed true)

Mats Zuccarello is a very intriguing player if the Rangers cannot sign him.

I would take that deal as well as the 5 for 25 suggested. 5.5 for a true quality 20+ minute d-man is not bad value these days.

Run with 6 defensemen and absolute no names as your back up. Yeah, we need 7 defensemen at least. I'd rather slot Bortz or Harrington etc whenever one of our guys go down. We are blessed with Dmen and I see maybe only one prospect moving right now. Martin won't be resigned and I actually thought about Williams for Martin the other week, seems like it would be good for both teams.

*cue the LA fans who will want Sutter and Martin for Williams because Williams has a good playoff history

No thank you. Not a bad complimentary player to have around, but some team will grossly overpay for him. Expect JR to make a hockey trade before the deadline or in the offseason.

Agreed. It will be 5+. I would do 5.5 tops, but shoot for around 5 flat

If Williams is a rental for the playoffs, yes, LA should keep him. For the reason you mention.

Forget that. Ehrhoff is a luxury at this point. We need to play our young dmen we have and take advantage of their cheap contracts.

Look at it this way: by resigning Ehrhoff to a multi year deal, that takes away the opportunity to sign or trade for a top6 winger. Cant have the best of both worlds.

I don't think they I've him either, but with Voynov out, Martin could fill a need there.

I'm not a Scuds supporter but the coaching staff views him very differently then most of us IMO. I do know that he is the 1st over the boards on every PK. Not saying that should mean anything because we have all voiced our opinions about PK specialist, but I believe it means something to NHL coaches.

Now williams is a guy I'd trade for. I want playoff performers. LA would be nuts to trade him.

You forgot Strait

The Isles have put themselves in great shape though. Any rumored numbers on Boychuk? Gotta be $5+ mil per, right?

Huh? 5-5.5 for a player like him is below market value. Niskanen got market value and Ehrhoff is better.

Forgot about that STUD dman.....

Rumors have it that he'll make between Orpik to Niskanen contract, so my guess is somewhere around that ????

He's already buying a house on the Island from 2 realestate brokers and now his brother is posting hints on twitter that fellows fans are posting or retweeting......

Ehrhoff is worth $6m x 5 years, do it now. that frees up trading Martin to LA for Williams, or Toiffele and Nolan for Martin/Kunitz. 2 for 2

In fairness, is Erhoff better than Niskanen? Don't say it bc he's on your team now which is a better team than the Sabres. I personally would have preferred Niskanen bc I think he's better at D, but also its by opinion too.

Throw contracts aside and evaluate who's the better dman, that's what I do, then the contracts come in play after.....

How? With Martin walking that frees up another 5 mill. Dupuis might not return and you still have assetts to make a trade (that include 1st round pick, Sutter, Spaling, Kapanen, a young D). Letang, Maatta, Ehrhoff, Despres, Bortuzzo, then you have Pouliot, Harrington, Dumoulin to make 8 defenders. One can be traded without hurting anything, two can be traded and you have to sign a 7th D (for a whopping 750k)

He is much better than you are giving him credit for, although I agree that somebody will overpay.
