Perron, Fasth for Reimer + another piece or two would work, I Think

HB, what are you thinking.. hypothetically of course.
what kind of deal makes sense to you as an Oiler Fan.

stick with Big Ben and Fasth, or maybe taking on Reimer?
or Neuvirth if the Sabres are dealing.

ill give up a second rounder or a quality prospect. even add one in with fasth. but a backup goalie on another team for someone vital to our squad doesn't make us better imo/
especially petry.

reimer is a solid goalie, but hes not surefire problem fixer to say the least. and outside of one of those, im not giving up huge assets.

reimer playing way better than fasth behind this defence isn't a slam dunk

same goes for neuvirth. hes got youth which is nice, but hes no surefire answer. I don't think he outplayed fasth by any means when we played buffalo. he was solid, but giving up perron for neuvirth? no

fasth and scrivens have also put up much better numbers on much better teams.

Look at the recent trades for goalies that are absolutely considered ahead of Reimer at present. And we're at least comparable to him at the time of their trade

Bishop
Lehtonen
Bobrovsky
Varlamov
Etc etc

All for picks/ prospects/unproven rooks

or the guy they traded for cause they didn't have faith that reimer could be the guy;
bernier for frattin, scrivens and a 2nd

I was bitter when Cloutier left but had to give a hometown boy a read and gotta say I've become a fan....

On to pressing needs; Remember in preseason when a Markstrom was snuck through waivers???? It would have been a free roll of the dice and a good kick in the crotch of a divisional rival to steal the main piece that came in the Luongo deal.... I assume the hierarchy were to distracted polishing their bling from 30 years ago(the last time they accomplished anything in the NHL)

Amazingly, Reimer is cheaper than Fasth and has the same contract as Scrivens, making $2.3 million this season and next before hitting unrestricted free agency. He has a 2.65 goals against average and .925 save percentage this season, and there's no doubt that he could be pried out of Toronto for the right return. The Leafs could use a defenceman (Jeff Petry?) or a scoring winger (David Perron?) so a deal is there to be made
.

I never comment on this site, but are you on crack? Reimer for Perron or Petry? Reimer would barely, if at all make the Oilers better. But trading Perron or Petry definitely makes the Oilers worse. If you want to acquire Reimer you start with Fasth and throw in a mid level prospect or a third round draft pick. Reimer is slightly better than Fasth... maybe. The Oilers need to fire there goalie coach. Name one goalie in the last 4-5 years that has improved with the Oilers? When Scrivens came to the Oilers he was playing really well and the more he worked with Chabot the worse he seems to play. What's with this new thing where he jumps out at the puck, as soon as he does it he's out of position.

Maybe we'll get offered Bishop for Jones and a 2nd again?

There is a reason that Markstrom was sent, and made it through waivers (let alone the fact he was traded).

He is not a bluechip goaltending prospect. The luster had warn off long ago, and he is definitely NOT any sort of answer to the goaltending situation for the Oilers.

I stand corrected, I forgot all goalies develop in a straight line and most are firmly entrenched as a starter by 24 years old.

when hall returns;

pouliot, nuge, ebs
hall, arco, Purcell
perron, draisaitl, yaks

3 lines that can really hurt you.

I really think that hall is the one guy that can probably still excel with the lesser linemates. and i really like perron for yaks right now.

still need that center for ld. a solid proven nhl'er gives us a forward group that's comparable with many of the stronger teams in the game.

our defence and tending on the other hand...

J Schultz for any decent goalie before the rest of the league realizes he's horrible.

Craig Anderson + Marc Methot + conditional 2nd rd pick (if methot doesn't re-sign)

for

Eberle

be gentle....i think it's a deal that works nicely for both teams

edmonton gets an obvious #1 goalie, and a guy who would almost surely be your #1 d-man

ottawa gets the top six winger they need.

thoughts?

How does he help the Oilers? The correct answer is: He doesn't

That is the point of this blog. They need a goalie now.

Reiimer would be an upgrade in net for Edmonton, and one thing they can be sure of is that his stats are not inflated by playing behind a good defence. he's posted a career .915 Nhl sv% behind a terrible defence.
The leafs have been outshot by opponents for years, so he is used to being overworked. He's also used to playing behind a team that plays a run and gun style giving up more odd man rushes. Despite this, he has a winning record of 69-50-15.

Personally, as a leafs fan, I'd rather keep Reiner.
