Some serious ups and downs for this franchise. As polarizing as anything in all of sports.

I never really understood the animosity to Jags from the fans. It was the teams perilous finances that led his way out of town.

Some more good perspective on Jags from the Pensblog.

Matta is amazing, what a stud. How mature were you when you when you were 20? I know I was goofing off and not ready for the pressure of the NHL let alone being diagnosed with cancer ! He is in the right country for getting surgery as the U.S. has the best medical care in the world. I Hope it all goes smooth and we get him back soon. On another note , was watching NHL live last night and Barry Melrose called in and was saying that the Pens didn't have the defensive depth to cover Matta being out and that Pens would have a rough 4-5 weeks ? What an idiot.

more like 10 excellent seasons... the last one... not so much. the whole jagr thing has been a bit overblown by the press but his exit is almost deadon comparible to MSL out of Tampa. Those that say otherwise are rewriting history. all that said, if he ever came back to man malkin/sids wing, I'd dust off my old jagr jersey, find my fading jagr glass, grab my jagr mullett wig and enjoy the show. its just a game and remaining angry at a sports figure only hurts the one being angry

I always liked Jags. I remember watching a game a while back and a girl in the front row had a sign that said Me+Jagr=69. Classy!

Something I find interesting you look at the great players of the 90's. Jagr, Selanne, Sakic, Yzerman, Lemieux, etc...They all were top producing players until the end. Today, it seems players just fall apart at around 35-37. Are the great players today as good as those guys mentioned?

Melrose lost all credibility a long time ago.

I was reading an article on NHL players a few days ago and they mentioned Chara. He was thought to be a bust in NYI, and traded at 23, it wasn't until he was 24 then he started to look like a great D man. Not saying Maata will be at Chara level, but at 20 and playing this well is quite an achievement.

Apparently he missed last year when Scuds, Martin, Letang and Orpik were all down for long periods. I still say that was the best hockey the team played last year. The kids stepped up and the forwards made much better decisions.

Wow. That pensblog article was manipulative. Left out the part where svboda played the pens and used them and the press to get jagr a better deal. Its exactly what an agent should do but don't lay it only on Shero and lemiuex.

Maybe Scuderi will be scratched?

Bortuzzo & Despres would be a nice, even pairing w/ both being able to play physical & move the puck. Both would have their strengths, but neither would fall apart in any given situation. Ie, Scuderi trying to get a shot on net or skate the puck out of the zone on a controled breakout.

When governments and society collapse in this chaotic world of ours, and we reassemble into feudal orders, I shall swear my allegiance to Jaromir the Great.
