No. He said that Irbe's name is being thrown around again. Nobody has been signed onto the coaching staff yet. Which is a huge issue if you ask me.

keep busy, it's summertime...just a little background on irbe, his ties to Nolan and what was said by some Washington writers about irbe's time with the caps

I think it's an issue that they didn't have assistant coaches for development camp. Some of those guys are going to be on the roster this year. (Girgensons, Pysyk). It would have been nice for them to get a little time with the new coaching staff. Especially when you take into account that others (Risto, McCabe, Grigorenko, Armia) will probably get called up at some point to fill in for injured regulars. It also would have been nice for them to get a little time and some familiarity with whoever the new staff is going to be.

I'm with Goose on this one. A bit worrisome that other teams are grabbing asst coaches yet the Sabres have none line up, are even mentioned, except for Irbe.

I'm taking this mentality as well. Regardless of what is being said, and has been said, about Nolan and his reputation it seems like it is more about finding the best fit for what Nolan wants to do.

Murray had said, I believe at the Brian Gionta press conference, that Ted Nolan was "in contract talks" with some candidates. That was over three weeks ago. Between that and what Homer had said last night, I have to think there's more to it than the team "taking its time".

I am wondering if it would have mattered since Cassidy ran the camp. Since a majority of the players will be involved with Cassidy, it could have been as much of an audition for Cassidy as it was the players to see how both respond.

Just a thought.

I'm not sure it's a huge issue, but it is getting a bit worrisome...

Especially when we all know that Nolan is not an X's and O's guy. How are you supposed to run development camp and have guys working on a system that doesn't currently exist?

I would think that you need these guys in place so that they can work with Cassidy on what they want so that he knows what the plan is going to be for Rochester next year.

The Traverse City tournament isn't that far off really, and we have no assistants yet. It's an issue.

Nolan will forgo the assistants and let the players decide how to coach themselves.

that's what chad Cassidy was for...he ran the development camp which is geared towards the sabres organization and what they expect of the youngins moving up the ranks...i'm not sure where all this X's and O's stuff came from, but Nolan is a head coach of a hockey team and whether it's Latvia, long island or buffalo, it's the same basic premise
