based on a 23 man roster and a 70 mil cap, MAF and Zatkoff combo are making less than average cap hit spread evenly among roster players. hows that for some numerical analysis! BOOM!

There's the whole performance element that you left out, no biggie though.

reality of the situation is MAF got better last year, is on a relatively fair contract and there are no real legitimate options out there to replace him that arn't bigger gambles than keeping MAF. Better the devil you know than the one you don't. It would make sense to acquire a better goalie... a rask, lunquivst, quick, etc. that isn't gonna happen. The pens are gonna have a lot of rookies on d next year and can't risk a gamble like a riemer in net.

Then why doesn't it make sense to pay less for what you're getting right now? Especially with only a year left on Fleury's deal? I mean, I like him a lot. Always will. But his numbers compared to some other guys just don't add up to $5M. The cap is going up. Take advantage of a cheaper option now.

Very few, none that are general user uploading image sites. they have some issue with image sites, but nearly everything outside of youtube for videos is fine.

No worries, I usually get the jist or get a look after work hours.

Keep fleury and see how he does in a new system that hopefully is more defensive friendly. Also, it's time to see what the ahl guys can bring.

Cant believe Im defending MAF but he has won a lot of games for us the past few years and he really is money in the shootouts. He isn't the only one that underwhelms in the playoffs.

I don't have any numbers or charts just the eye test but didn't Zakhoft play as good if not better than MAF this year?

Yeah, he played well for a guy in his first full time season as a backup. I was pleased. Wouldn't say he upstaged Fleury at all. I do think there was a slight difference in defensive priority when he played though.

Anyone else see that Markov wants 3 years and $18M from the Habs?

Good news for NH too. Well...maybe. Hemsky did the inevitable and rejected the Sens 3 year offer.

Any of my trade proposal posts have involved taking existing parts, moving them for multiple pieces in return, and/or cap space.

With that said, I'd be up for moving MAF for something like the following scenario assuming Reimer (or equivalent) is the return:

- Acquire Reimer for late round draft pick. Sign to $2.5 mill per for 2 years. His motivation: win a cup and parlay that into big contract in 2 years.
- Move MAF for a 3rd line player making $2 mill or so per.
- You have an extra $500K to help acquire another player.

2 players + some cap space for the price of one.

Now, move Scuds out too. Him + the above $500K and you have $4.25 to play with. Say that allows you to get Cammy (for argument).

Resign Goc. MAF to Van for Kassian (or something similar).

You have the following pieces and only need to acquire one more 4th line player.

Sid-Kunitz-Bennet
Malkin-Neal-Cammy
Kassian - Sutter - Duper
Goc-Gibbons-4th liner with some size

Martin-Letang
Maatta-Borts
Despres-Pouliot
Smlson-Doum

Reimer/Zat

Still not a Cup team IMO but closer. I guess it depends on what you could get back from dealing MAF.

There aren't a lot of trade partners for MAF if you really look at it.

I'd look elsewhere for a roster upgrade and also the change in the team's DNA. Don't know if moving MAF does that.

"In other news, Ales Hemsky rejected a contract offer from the Ottawa Senators after his agent discovered the offer included a three year term, but no compensation."

Teams that would realistically consider another goalie:

- Van
- Buffalo
- Calgary
- Edmonton
- San Jose
- Wash

I think the Caps could certainly use some help. Their goalie guru Trotz brought with him is supposed to be pretty good. Perhaps he could help MAF?
