the lack of energy/drive in only the 2nd game of the season is very troubling. It seemed that Lacavcalier and Schenn were the only forwards with any jump last night.

On D I thought both Coburn and Grossmann struggled last night while Mezaros played pretty well. I would make some lineup and line changes tonight and would go with:
Read-Lacavalier-Giroux
Hartnell-Couturier-Voracek
Talbot-Schenn-Simmonds
Newbury-Hall-Rinaldo

Timonen-Schenn
Streit-Mezaros
Gustafsson-Grossmann

Maybe being scratched will wake Coburn up.

Flyers need a scoring winger. Way too many 3rd/4th line players on this team.

Grossmann had a tough third period but was otherwise fine. I agree about Meszaros playing well last night.

Voracek scored 22 (9th) last season
Hartnell was 8th the season before..
Read hit all 4 target during AS game (I know, not relevant) and scores regularly..
They have scoring wingers enough.. They just don't score...

Well, Read did score last night. It just didn't count . The referee blew play dead when he lost sight the puck as Carey Price left a rebound right on the doorstep. Way too quick of a whistle there. But that particular bad break evened out in the third period.

New season same issues, better goalies, healthy D, 10 mill in free agents Streit & LeCavalier. Not a big fan of Streit sorry.

I am not going to back down on my criticism of the coach & GM anymore. There is enough to do better. I realize Snider made Holmgren make some of the moves like Bryz, but hes gotta be man enough and have enough $ in the bank to say no.
The locker room stuff from the Coyotes on Bruz had to make its way through the NHL brotherhood. Not good enough vetting of the player before the signing

Anyone want to start guessing dates for the change?

Lavy can concentrate on suing BOA and still get his paycheck

Bryz, Briere buyouts and how many millions on coaches wasted ?

I know, Bill, I know..
Bad break.. Form the referee sight it seemed as a "covered" puck.

Do you really think the flyers had a lot of good scoring chances against the leafs even strength?

That Habs lineup is nothing special. I don't see how lava/holmer dig themselves out

I doubt he makes it more than two more weeks.

I hear you.
I wasn't too upset after the Leafs game, I thought the effort was at least there and they very easily could have won that game. However I was really upset with the overall lack of effort/emotion last night. To me, only Rinaldo, Read and Lacavalier showed up last night among the forwards and only Mezaros seemed to going all out among the D. I wouldn't question Timonens effort either, but He just looks slow out there and thats worrisome too. To have this poor a performance in only the 2nd game of the season is alarming to say the least.

If this type of play keeps up, Laviolette will be gone by the end of the month and if they fail to make the playoffs, I'm pretty sure that Holmgren will be joining him in the unemployment line as well.

Moving G to wing is not the answer. Laviolette scrambled the lines all night and it did nothing.

Talbot should be the best player on the 4th line, not an anchor on the third. Rosehill or Newbury should not be regulars on this team.

I don't disagree with you at all, nor am I suggesting that G be moved permanently to wing. I just feel that since Vinnie and Read are the only forwards playing well right now, putting G with them for a game or 2 might get him going as well.

Listless play and the inability to adjust to hurdles will kill you every time, and that's what the Flyers had last night. No fire, no sense of urgency and as usual, no answers for an opponent who played with discipline

Exactly, watching a team just going through the motions in only the 2nd friggin game of the season is alarming to say the least. I'm really starting to think that Lavy isn't going to make it to November.

Their 8th game is Oct 17 vs the Pens. They have 6 days off after that. If they haven't improved, there's a logical window to make a change

I am not normally this pessimistic, but I agree with all of this. I see all the same problems, and wonder if the team has just given up on Lavy. We can't wait too long to make the change as we'll be out of the playoff race by the 1/4 mark at this pace.

Only small positive is that they can come right back with two more games in the next 3 nights and try to get this turned around, but if they don't fix the issues they've had here, I guess it won't matter. First game was frustrating, but I am already getting into don't care a lot mode which is bad. 1 win since the beginning of preseason is starting to look bad here.

Losing because you are outplayed by a better team is one thing. Losing because the effort is lacking is inexcusable.

When theres a coaching change I hope they find someone who can coach the players we have, not have to tailor our roster around a style/system/philosophy.

What I want is a head coach who is capable of adapting his system/style to what he has on hand, has a track record of winning at some level, and a record of instilling discipline. Not necessarily discipline to avoid penalties, but disciplined play within a system.

Poor discipline murders the Flyers. Poor gap control, forcing low percentage plays, overaggressive forechecking and getting caught and having it open up odd man rushes.
