Saw that circulating Facebook. Knew it wasn't true. Not that it matters much.

The average age of this roster is (as of now) - 26.7

Nowhere near 29.

yeah.

classic leafs prospect/roster logic here. younger=better.

Highly skilled youth isn't such a bad thing

Building around Eberle, Hall, Nuge, Yaks, Schultz, Nurse and Klefbom, the oilers literally don't have to worry about being too old for about 15 years.

I have had arguments about this in the past. Last year for example we had Khabby raising the average up considerably. I also remember reading Colin's Blog before the Flames had their fire sale, claiming that the Flames were not ancient either. Average age is meaningless. It is really the average age of your core players that counts. So really Ference is the only key "old guy" the Oilers have. When Colin wrote that article, it was mostly their bottom six and a few defensemen that had any youth to them at all.

L1: Hall (21) - Nugent-Hopkins (20) - Eberle (23)
L2: Perron (25) - Gagner (24) - Yakupov (19)

There's absolutely nothing to worry about (in terms of age) when you look at that top 6 core.

Smyth is a fine 4LW with PK and limited PP time. Give him a training camp, improved 4L linemates, and play him in his natural wing position, not C, and I bet he has 20+P and is a fine 4th liner.

Who gives 2 poops about the average age of the oilers? Inexperience has been a problem
