Keep in mind that Orr got 2 minutes for merely attempting to throw an elbow at Chara's head (caught him in the shoulder).

JVR, one of our best players a series, gets his nose broken on a play that even the Google Earth cameras could have seen was a blatant elbow and it's nothing because it's the playoffs and penalties are decided by coin flip.

I just don't understand how it's possible to play a fair 60+ minutes in these conditions.

And the NHL is the only league that has so many that "Oh well, we lost track" is a legitimate excuse.

- Leeman4Gilmour

If you are going to call the JVR elbow, you're going to also have to call JVR for interference when he tackled the guy.

Let it go.

read your post.. you are critiquing the reffing in the NHL

its fine.. ev eryone has to deal with the same ref.. and thats the bottom line.

I said the game has too much controversy due to referees needing to make judgment calls, and advocated removing as much judgment as possible.

I thought you were better at reading.

I guess we'll need to define "blatant" now...

I'm wondering how long before baseball goes to an electronic ump for balls and strikes.

No but most of them have that Windows 7 feature that reads their email to them in a Stephen Hawking voice. Your move.

Absolutely. I'm not going to sit here and try to dissect each call/non-call to determine if the Leafs should have won or truly lost.

The point is that when the officiating is this inconsistent, is it ever really possible to tell if the better team has won fairly?

There are so many question marks surrounding these games that the integrity of the league itself is being questioned.

"Let them play" has no basis in any other sport because that's not the spirit of competitive sport. A sport, by definition, is a competition bound by clear and evenly applied rules where the winner is decided by who can play under these rules better.

"Let them play" introduces an entirely new role for officials to decide outcomes. Nobody ought to be comfortable with that.

there's still an incredible amountli of clearly defined rules broken, and left to slide, because it's allegedly playoff hockey.

the put the whistle away argument is ridiculous.

lets let a hit by pitch call be slide because it's the world series. right.

Time to head for home but do you think Ford might be the next coach of the Rangers?

It's been like this for as long as I can remember.

Playoff hockey is the most intense and is the most entertaining thing to watch in sports, for me at least.

Whistles go away in the 3rd, especially in elimination games.

I love it.

I don't remember many people complaining like this when Marchand punched Sedin 25 times in front of the ref.
