new Hab signing Mark Barberio got cut from the midget major AAA team and got to pick which midget minor AAA team he would play for and picked mine, but when the major AAA coaches found out they un-cut him because they didn't like my coach, an ex-Nordique because he didn't do the typical hockey politics favour trading bullpoop. I remember Barberio walking into the dressing room and crying saying he didn't get cut because he wanted to play on our team.

he went from a scratch to #1 on that team's d-man depth chart and got drafted in the Q and now has a nice pro career so i guess things turned out alright for him

That happened to me in Junior B. The coach that cut me, that I just talked about the first story, ended up taking over my Junior B team. He cut me again despite being a 20yr old and one of the better players we had. He told me I was cut after like our first non-intramural game even though I was killing it in camp but he wouldn't sign my release papers because he didn't want me to catch on with another team.

I eventually did and (frank)ing lit the tits off his team full of 18yr olds. Goals, hits, chirps, accidental clearing attempt ripped into the bench.

I went to highschool with a guy who basically had the same issue as your boy. He's on an AHL contract with the Flames now. Another friend of mine had a similar issue in Junior A but since that league actually cares about money he got his issue resolved, went to a new team and is playing for Charlotte

it's not gonna stop until coaches at that level get paid by professional organizations like the pro soccer teams in europe do for organized youth soccer.

Its (frank)ing gross.

I laugh anytime I hear someone from Hockey Alberta or Hockey Canada talk and say that these issues are wives tales and urban legends.

A guy I play mens with was saying that a dad gave the coach free oil changes and minor maintenence work on his car to make sure his kid got extra ice time.

There was a case in Alberta recently where a coach was fired and fined because he only played his top6 and top4D and the other kids were maybe getting a shift or two a game. This was in Atom, which is like 9 year olds.

Is credit cards really that crazy of a thing? Or even an expense account? It seems par for the course for that kind of work. Like, implied.

my goalie coach that year i played minor midget was also the goalie coach for the lewiston MAINEiacs, he had halak and bernier as goalies (name dropping again), anyway, no credit cards. just piles of gas, hotel, motel bills he could expense out to the team.

i still wanna find that post

And a lot of junior teams don't poop and piss dollarinies. I played with a kid whose dad scouted for a WHL team and it was like a part time gig that paid enough to make it worth it, but not anything special. He still worked like a normal job at the same time.

The trainer I used to work out with in the summer basically worked with every quality hockey player to come out of Kamloops, Prince George and like half the Okanogan. I'd be in the gym and look across to Shane Doan and Darryl Sydor and Erik Christensen

There was a great post from a Canuck fan that had a meltdown when someone called into question his hockey knowledge and he brought up some story about how he did a personal scouting trip, for his fandom, to go watch Kevin Bieksa in his draft year while he was playing in (frank)-knows-where Ontario because he had a hunch the team would draft him.

He said he then wrote up a report and express mailed it to the team and they sent him a "thankyou and a job offer!!!!!1!" but he didn't take it because he just loved the game too much or something
