No one knew Patrick was a bust in 2017. He had a decent rookie season - corduroy
His injury history was a known quantity as was his migraine issues. That right there is a reason to stay away especially at the #2 overall pick. You can’t afford to miss with that pick. That player has to be a cornerstone of your franchise. |

His injury history was known predraft. Nothing on migraines can be found. Mjl is still looking for any during his current ban. Maybe he will show some when he’s back |

I was looking at some of the best players teams in the NHL have drafted after the first round since 2000. Highly imperfect compilation, many from memory (if I remembered a stud name or two for an organization drafted outside the first, I did not look further). Also a lot from quick scanning.
Where do you guys think Flyers record ranks in this category? To me, it seems below average.
Avs: Stastny, ROR
Blues: Parayko, Backes
Bruins: Bergeron, Marchand
Buffalo: Derek Roy
Calgary: Johnny Gaudreau
Canadiens: PK Subban
Canucks: Kevin Bieksa
Canes: Aho
Chicago: Duncan Keith
Coyotes: Keith Yandle
Dallas: James Neal, Jamie Benn
Detroit: Hudler, Filipulla, Franzen (Zetterberg and Datsyuk drafted late 90s)
Ducks: William Karlsson
Oilers: Jeff Petry, Matt Greene (?)
Devils: Paul Martin (?)
CBJ: Cam Atkinson, Derek Brassard
Florida: Dadonov, Gudbrandson (?)
Isles: Hamonic, Anders Lee
Kings: Toffoli, Simmonds
Leafs: Kadri, Anton Stralman
Lightning: Point, Kucherov, Palat
Pens: Muzzin, Rust (?)
Preds: Shea Weber
Rangers: Stepan, Callahan, Hagelin
Sens: Mark Stone
Sharks: Pavelski
Thrashers/Jets (Umm, Adam Lowry?)
Washington: Oduya, Seabrook
Wild: Kirill Kaprisov (I know he just started, but he looks great!)
Vegas (too early)
Flyers: Sharp, Ghost, Seidenberg, Hagg, Maroon

Isn't it a fact some in the Flyers draft room preferred another player over Patrick and were overruled by du fuhrer? - hello it's me 2050
Bill actually reported this a few weeks back as one of Hextall’s apologists was suggesting it had been a forgone conclusion on drafting Patrick....Patrick apparently wasn’t even a consensus amongst the Flyers scouting staff....in fact Bill suggested most of scouts favoured Makar or Heiskanen over Patrick. Alas it proved to be the wrong pick. As a Flyer fan it’s disappointing they got it wrong, but in the end sometimes teams get it wrong. |

Bummer about Patrick but I also don’t really blame him. - hereticpride
I’m sure he’s not flopping on purpose. It’s pretty tough for a young kid with those type of pressures not to be able to live up to the projection....not the first time it’s happened....not the last I’m sure. |

The Migraine issue hadn’t bothered him since he was 12 until the most current issue. The injury issues in his Jr. Career were well documented.....red flags for sure...and Flyers thought they were the type of injuries that were flukes....perhaps they were and perhaps he can get back on track. |

Wasn’t Kadri like the 7th over all pick?

Very true. And I loved Obi Wan Knuble. Just sayin a Gange-Forsberg-Sharp line could've been fun too. |

The coordinated pile on continues. There is no way Patrick will be able to stay in town after this even if he wanted to. The fans are going to be all over him as a "guy who doesn't want to be here". And there is no bigger sin in Philly.
Just read through the comments of the article. Patrick has played his last game in Philly. |

And once you read it, the genesis of that story is again that same, tenuous bit of speculation.

You look at the lists of picks over the years for a team, and what really jumped out to me was how very, very few after the 1st round even end up as a NHL regular, let alone a star.
Compare with the NFl, where a 2nd rounder is expected to be day 1 starter, and not on special teams. |

Considering his production or lack there of, I don’t think Fletcher should care what Patrick wants. Unless a team offers something substantial ( very, very doubtful) then why would Fletcher take that chance of virtually giving away the former 2nd over all pick?
I did hear an offer this week that made me think ....
Hart, Patrick and Vorecek (being taken by the Kracken) in ED
For the 2nd over all pick in 2021 draft.
The Flyers would then take a young forward with the pick and draft a goalie with #13....anyways, this discussion made me think of it....the guy that told me knows nothing and is not reliable...lol ...just thought I’d pass it along. |

I don't think it is a matter of what Fletcher thinks Patrick wants, or what Patrick wants. The story is that he doesn't want to be here. True or not, now the fans will be all over him every time he shows his face in public. That isn't very conducive to being a good player.
We have a lot of keyboard warriors (not you) in this forum who will say "suck it up, that is what he is paid for" or some such bravado nonsense. All the while we know if they were in the same situation they would be folding like tissue paper.
He will never play another game for Philadelphia. Mark my words.
