Hawks must have the most amount of players left playing now? Canucks have four but Hamhuis and Lu will be sitting the Gold medal game out I'd imagine?

I bet it does! I bet it also feels wrong to root against Mr. Sedin. Strange situations in this Olympics thing.

Kane should get a bronze.

Would still love to see the Hawks make a run at Ladd. Heck I would mind having Brouwer back right now either when you look at the Blues team we're going to end up facing here in a couple of months. Sure Jagr is old, but it would be interesting to see him with Hossa...you never know.

The US team got beat like a drum today. Kaner 0-2 in penalty shots (although he drew iron on the second) and he took couple of bad penalties (frustration no doubt) in the third.

Canada and Sweden for the hardware tomorrow morning. Should be a fantastic game.

Good, we needed a fresh blog.

As I posted over on the old one, I think the Swedes have a very good D-corps and good (but overrated) goaltending. There is speed up and down the roster. Though I'd think Canada wins this one, I'm not counting Sweden out at all.

Either way, three Hawks are walking away with Gold, and all 6 with medals. Best of luck to all of 'em, and they better not get injured...

At this point I just don't want Sedin to get hurt. Hamhuis and Luongo won't see the ice so they will be OK.

Just a reminder - to get even a decent "grit" guy to play on the third/fourth lines the Hawks are going to have to lose a salary from the roster. And nobody can really be sent down without waivers. Regin and Kostka won't get much. A trade without a rostered player leaving is pretty unlikely, imo.

This year's continuing problem: almost no help from the farm (except for Smith).

Bolland, Frolik, Stalberg gone; Bickell and Handzus regressed; only Smith has stepped up, only Saad has shown improvement.

Second line is too fluid, third line in inconsistent, only first and fourth lines have played consistently well.

The team depth isn't there this year, the presumed system depth isn't there.

Way off topic...but I'm having a battle with Lightning fan over who is more Hall of Fame worthy, Chris Pronger or Sergei Gonchar? Since I'm an Oilers fan, I really have no knowledge of rating Defense .

Pronger was a dominant d man and best at his position for a while. You dont say that about gonchar. Gonchar is very good offensively but not hall of fame worthy. Also never saw him as a shutdown guy.

With Pronger the Flyers went to the Cup Finals. Without him they missed the playoffs. Pronger was a franchise changer. I don't think the same can be said about Gonchar.

Put Pirri back at 2C, use Zus sparingly, put Versteeg and Saad back into their proper lines and positions, and keep that Isles garbage off our ice. HTF can this be rocket science???

Pirri hasn't proven he belongs on the team let alone on the second line. Next week the Hawks are making the strectch run to the playoffs and barring injuring Pirri will not be part of it.

He did the same thing in Edmonton. Pronger's one of the best defensive d-men to ever do it, Gonchar was pretty good, but no where near Pronger

didn't have the best tournament by any stretch of the imagination. At least it wasn't from lack of effort.
