Dahlin did play the right side in Sweden and played nicely thank you very much. So it's not like he isn't capable of doing it.

You sound like you typical generation Zer.. Patience. Patience. Patience. I'd give Dahlin at LEAST 2 more years maybe more. This generation does not mature as quickly as earlier generations for whatever reasons.

No, Dahlin doesn't have that footspeed that Makar, Hughes, etc have, but (for me) he IS going to "get it" at some point, and become a helluva Dman. The Sabres have the makings of a real nice, strong D corps, moving forward.

It's all about being somewhat patient. Power is going to struggle. Johnson is going to struggle. Samuelsson is going to struggle. They ALL struggle.

However, given that they do seem to have a nice mix of young guys coming (Power, Johnson, Samuelsson, Laaksonen, Novikov, and maybe Fitzgerald/Bryson turn into a decent bottom pairing), maybe they CAN afford to trade Dahlin if they have the opportunity to add a difference-making forward.

Montour went from analytical nightmare to analytical darling with a change of scenery.

I do think Dahlin needs to improve his defensive game, I don’t necessarily think he should be playing as many minutes as he’s playing either, but I think the supporting cast isn’t helping his cause either.

The Sabres are a bottom 3 team in expected goals this year. If it weren’t for them being 5th in goals above expected this season would much more uglier than it already is

People will say Buffalo should have signed him long-term in 2021, but rumor had it that he didn't want to which works out well for the Sabres because they'll have him locked into his 30's.

Realistic list of players I’d consider for Dahlin

Quinton Byfield
Trevor Zegras
Dylan Larkin
Jack Hughes
Mitch Marner
Elias Pettersson

Not sure id definitely do it either. But it would take a player like above for me

My guess at your list above:

- Kings say yes and quickly
- Ducks say no quickly
- No idea what Detroit would say, but I'm guessing no
- Devils say no quickly
- Toronto likely says no but listens
- Canucks say no quickly

So the only yes is a top end pick who hasn't had a great beginning to his pro career overall.

I doubt the Sabres are getting comparable value in a Dahlin trade, and certainly not value that would make it feel like the Sabres sold high, unless they think he's barely a 2nd pair defenseman. If they truly think that, then the trade they'd make would look like they're actually selling low, not high, as they're banking on him turning out to be nothing much.
