JT’s new contract is a full blown “(frank) you Marner we can do this if you put the team first” and I absolutely love it.

Absolutely this.
I wonder if it would even register with Marner though. Makes you wonder what kind of stuff is going into his ears.

Tavares also signed his 11 mil a year deal before it being the 3rd highest paid player in the league at the time...

All this to say. Hurray and a great deal.

He also signed with a team training players, not one trying to win a cup.

So much, this.

I think Marner is 99.9% gone, but it's a great precedent to set with the Leafs. Snake wants to win and is willing to leave money on the table to make it happen.

More of this, please!

I think he will want to start fresh with his newborn elsewhere.

JT will forever be looked upon favourably by Leaf fans forever now. He loves being a Leaf and prioritized that over trying to just get the most money.

Marner could have had it all in Toronto. He could have made an insane amount of money and be beloved by leaf fans as well. As soon as he tried to squeeze every last dime on his last contract at 10.9 Million I knew it would not end well for him and fans were going to turn on him. As a self proclaimed leaf fan growing up, he should have known better. Impossible to live up to that expectation. If he only took even a million less(still over paid compared to his peers) fans would have been more forgiving. Marner brought all this upon himself for being so selfish and greedy. Whatever he makes elsewhere he would have made even more staying as a Leaf with advertisements and endorsements. He won't get the same endorsements playing in places like Utah. He also now will be villianized in Toronto. He will be booed constantly whenever he returns to Toronto. Once again he will just blame the media and fans because Toronto is just such a hard place to play. He is just as soft mentally off the ice as he is on the ice. It is just too bad that they didn't trade him when they had the chance to get some assets back but I wouldn't be surprised that once he is gone, the team will have much more success(especially in the playoffs when it counts)

Up next, get Knies signed to a long term deal! Leafs will still be good next year, maybe even better once Tre is done this offseason. Some of the current players might even step up now that Marner is gone. DNA change needed!
