With giants like Caufield and Gallagher .... you can afford a fairy dancer in the playoffs like Marner - AlfieisKing
I bet you wouldn't say that to Laine or Suzukis face. |

Gee - ya' really think Montreal is less of a media microscope than Toronto ?? Those Quebecers will fry him the first time he coughs up the puck !! |

Craig Berube wants him to stay. They will sign both Ekblad and Marchand because they want to emulate the Panthers, ha! |

$13AAV is too much for one player let alone a non playoff performer |

He's going to Buffalo so it's still easy to visit Toronto. |

Playoff performances won’t be a problem, at least. |

This is one of the last places he will land. Montreal is a storied, original-6 franchise. The appeal ends there. High pressure, high taxes, and the only team where language barrier is truly a factor for North American athletes. I’m aware of the southern portion which is not speaking English or French, but the reality is they are extremely unlikely to become household names via the NHL. That’s an honest and accurate observation. Bettman wants league-wide parity. Fair… until you consider 45% tax in frigid cold Winnipeg compared to the extremely lenient Florida taxes that come with low pressure and beautiful weather. Is it any wonder why Winnipeg can’t retain players (without drastic overpays… Little, Wheeler)
If Marner walks, he will not be looking to set a record AAV to temporarily be the league’s highest paid player. He would take a lesser AAV in a tax-friendly state to make more money and play on a more competitive roster.
I honestly feel the above rationale has to come up in the next CBA to avoid the no/low tax teams running away with such a large advantage in overall roster and free agent appeal. |
