Recognizing the need to change the mix in Florida and trading Huberdeau coming off a 100+ point season will go down as an all-time ballzy move by Zito. Love him or hate him, Tkachuk changed the direction of that team. |

The party just continues on Monday for Reinhart and Montour. |

I'd rather see the Panthers keep Stolarz and get rid of Spencer Knight and his 4.5 million contract. |

im not the most popular when i suggest this, but I have been more then willing to let Monty walk. I feel like the season before this was his good luck season and if he wants the kind of money I feel like he wants - then no thank you
It was palatable when he was scoring but he is missing the net constantly this season |

How did Spencer get that contract with 57 career NHL games? I know he was supposed to be the future #1, but what kind of bridge was that.
I know he was in the program, but I have no clue for what. I just assumed he had a video game addiction like Laine.

Weegar has been good, but Huberdeau has been awful since he left Florida. One of the worst contracts in the league. |

Florida Panthers have about $20M in cap space (not going to include Spencer Knight but Storlarz will cost easily 2M). Sam Reinhart won't leave FLA but just scoring the game winner in game 7, scoring 57 goals and almost 100 points, he should get at least 9.5M in FLA. That leaves about 10-11M until hitting the ceiling. Montour can easily get 7M
You can bridge Lundell for 2.5M but how many UFAs can they bring back? Cousins, Lomberg, Tarasenko, Kulikov, Ekman Larsson, are all UFA.
Carter Verhaeghe, Sam Bennett, and Aaron Ekblad are UFA in 12 months too. Verhaeghe should be negotiating his contract right away. He easily is worth 8M |

I think Bobrosky has one more year before they buy him out. They won't resign Cousins or Tarasenko. Ekblad might be going due to bad play and the fact his injuries have slowed him down. I hope they resign Lomberg because he brings character and is the team's cheerleader. |

Seems like they tried to go the same route as what NJ did with Hughes, and OTT did with some of their young guys. Sign them to long deals while they're still working through their promising development with the hope that they become massive bargains a couple years in. But they whiffed hard on the Knight deal.
I wouldn't complain if my team won a Cup and had a couple bad deals on the books though. |

Huberdeau has to be pretty miserable right now. Sure he can wipe his tears with $100 bills, but he got shipped from South Florida to Alberta and plays for a team that traded several good-to-star level players and has to watch all his buddies from the Panthers play in two consecutive Cup finals and win one of them. |

They should trade Ekblad and use his money to resign Montour. |

Could be the case, I have no idea. He's still not a lost cause, but he's got some work to do for sure |

Knight looked like he was ready for the show at first. Took the stage by storm in game 5 vs TB during their first playoff meeting. Then there (imo) was too much sitting and watching as a backup instead of playing, all while being the anointed “next one like Lu...” Issues with OCD is why he went to players’ assistance program.
Knight is still in the plan as their future goalie. |
