Ottawa really needs to keep Chychrun. He is the biggest bargain contract that they have! (none ELC) For a cap-strapped team to ship out their best bargain is really akin to suicide! |

They’re in a weird place. The ownership wants to know who the “core” is. With Chychrun just one season away from his next deal the owner may look at high draft picks and think about a reset. He also wants to get salary off the books. It’s a bit of a mess. |

Hate to change topics but if the Lions lose tonight it’s not because San Fran beat them but because of bad coaching decisions. Almost seems like he wanted to lose. I sure hope that the Lions can come back. |

I disagree. Everyone knows he's an aggressive coach. Should he have kicked two FGs, which would have won them the game. Sure, but that's not his style. Why would he change what got them there? Four major dropped balls that were all easily catchable was the difference for me. Great teams make plays when they need them. SF was by far the more talented team, with a ton of playoff experience on that roster. Detroit gave the game away, but I don't believe it was coaching, I believe it was execution.
I hate to be the guy that blames things on the refs, but I saw four pretty significant pass interferences by SF and at least three obvious face masks, none of which were called. The Baltimore/KC game was horrifically refed, which was predicted by many based on who the NFL decided to assign to that game. |

"Players drop passes. It happens. However it was Reynolds’ reaction after the drop that gave me pause. There was no fist pounding, no frustration, no anger or fire — instead the camera cut to the sideline where Reynolds was seen laughing about his hand position being wrong with the rest of the receiving group." |

@JEREMY: Couple of blogs ago-ish, you mentioned Laine as a possible trade target. He has entered the Player's Assistance Program.... I do hope he gets the help he needs. He's young, has skills.... just wish there was a way to help fully prepare young folks for the rigours of pro sports. Vrana, Laine....good dudes, talented. Sad that folks let them be exposed to so much crap.
Wishing him well. |

It’s so much fun following what’s going on. Even my son who is 15 years old is seeing a wings team that he hasn’t seen since he was very young. It’s all very exciting.
With all due respect, I am curious of your thoughts on trade strategy. I understand the clamor about dancing with Ottawa, on Chychrun. The dude is a stud, he can shoot the puck, and he’s tough to play against. The Devils advocate that I want to respectfully put out there is trading with the enemy. I know we traded with them for Alex DeBrincat, which I can see both sides of that trade. There is a heated rivalry right now between Ottawa and Detroit. It feels like bad blood. You just wait for Tkachuk to be in someone’s Face, playing on the edge, and making life miserable. I just have a hard time, thinking that they want to be trade partners with us, and we want to be trade partners with them. It used to be a “trade out at a conference” code to follow. Do you guys think this is a thing of the past now? I certainly don’t want to make a conference team better. I’m old-school that way. |

They would be better to keep him and trade Chabot....but he would be much harder to trade with that $8M x 4 1/2 yrs left contract. It was ridiculous for Dorian to acquire him with Chabot and Sanderson already on the LS. Even though Chychrun can play the RS, they found out he is more effective on the LS. Red Wings do not need to make the same mistake. If the Wings do go for him, then would Holl go to Ottawa? I don't think his NTC would accept it. And then Chiarot would go to the RS. Or Maata, a 1st and a 2nd. And I am sure Ottawa would want a 2024 1st, since they lost theirs to Dorian's mistake with Dadanov. |

I am a huge fan of Maata. If we had a clone of him for the third and fourth pairing, we would be so much more better off. Chirot has had a better year. Let’s give credit where credit is due. I’m not huge on Holl. If Petry can regain some form, I think Holl is your low guy. |

LOL. Holl has a no trade clause. What did he have on Yzerman to get this contract or is he related and Yzerman gave him this contract because he is family. |

Holl is a plus +\- since they went to the tighter D man to man coverage system. |

I hate to say it... but the Wings don't even need Kane right now. DeBrincat needs to get back to putting up points without him as a linemate. LaLonde will have to figure something out if Kane goes down again. To me Kane is just added scoring depth to this team. It's all about the team defense as far as I'm concerned. If they keep playing tight team defense they'll keep winning on a consistent basis. Luckily Lyon is in goal and that's been a huge upgrade... no soft goals to kill momentum in some of the tight games. He also comes up with the big save that Husso can't seem to do very often.
And I love the fact that the Wings are 4th in the NHL for offense... yet their highest scoring player (Larkin) is ranked 37th in the league for points. Wings now have 10 players with at least 10 goals which leads the NHL. I like the balance... because if they make the playoffs...they don't have to rely on a couple of superstars to carry them or worry about their star player(s) having scoring slump. This team can roll 4 lines which we haven't seen in over a decade. |
