Sean lots of work went into creating this list but I will ask you to go back another 5 years and see the difference. For example McDavid, Dria, the Nuge, Nurse, Klefbom to name a few. Do the same comparison with all the same teams. Once the Oilers picked up McDavid their first round picks moved later in the round so the probability of their picks being a 6 six forward or top 4 d-man was reduced. Example Yami. They did make several mistakes due to central drafting pressure with Yakopov and Puili but other than that not too bad. |

Sure, and if you go back 20 years we could add a bunch of other players too. This is about the years since McDavid. The Oilers have not drafted particularly well, nor do they have any Cups to show for it. |

K-man thanks for doing the research work for me. Out of the Oilers 13-1st round picks there are 8 currently playing on the Oilers and one possibly next year now playing in Bakersfield. Compare that to Calgary and other teams north of the border and see if any have that many with the team that drafted the player-Calgary being the worse I would think. Sean cherry-picking dates just to prove your opinion on the oiler management does not prove a hypothesis, it only shows you manipulate the data to fit your own theories. In the academic world you kicked out for doing that. |

I guess wreckage beat you to the response and has already answered my question. Interesting to see how other Canadian teams fare. |

Your analysis fails to account for draft position, and how draft picks were used to acquire other assets. I don't disagree that the Oilers have drafted poorly, but the analysis itself is pretty flawed. |

3 top 10 picks, lots of wasted picks, 4th oa being their earliest. Compare that to Edmontons 4-1st oa, a 3rd oa, 1-4th oa and you can see why they’ve got so many playing. |

I can also see that no one wants to stay in that joke of an organization and bolts as quick as they can from Calgary. |

Yamamoto has outscored a few top 6 forwards on this list |

Drafting is step 1. Step is development. That's a bigger failure. |
