Regarding that Booby Taylor signing, had to look it up - the Jersey Devils here was an EHL team, not the NHL version that would come along later. |

Correct. They played at Cherry Hill Arena: a dump with a sloped rink, chicken wire, and no shower facilities for the visiting team. |

Nice home ice advantage. Attacking twice downhill.

Exactly. 1st and 3rd periods were downhill for the home team. |

The Cherry Hill arena would become the brief home of the Jersey Knights of the WHA... and wascan occsional location of some Philadelphia Warriors NBA games... Originally known as The Ice House, and later being named the Centrum, was a small but useful venue for South Jersey sports fans to catch some cheaper, and closer professional sports action. I caught most of the Jersey Knights games when the Flyers games were hard to get... it was actually a fun time, and helped satisfy my serious hockey itch... the chain link fence provided some interesting action as, the puck was in-play, and had some weird carroms. Kaminsky's bar was slightly down Brace Road, on the opposite side; it would later become a location frequently drawing Flyers players and organization management and personne... it was not unusual to see Flyers Players pop in after games... I personally will never forget Dave Brown's grand entrance, dressed to the nines, and the time Coach Murray held a meeting at a table there with his crew during an NHL Stoppage... also seeing Propp quietly drinking some beers, in an almost empty bar, with the Beast after he was playing for another team... and the time my buddy and I struck up a conversation with Kindrachuk who loved to talk hockey; remember him telling us something like Keenan was a great ciach, the kind some players would skate through walls for... I have many fond memories of the old Kaminsky's, and the Cherry Hill Arena. |

Kaminski's was to the 1980s to mid-1990s Flyers what Rexy's was the 1970s guys. |

IIHF sanctions, lol. I’m sure Putin and the KHL are really losing sleep over that. It’s the new USSR folks, get used to it. |

The IIHF has said that it will implement proceedings for further disciplinary actions against CSKA, the player and possibly the KHL itself.
This is leading to a very dark place between the NHL and Russia IMO. The Flyers have a valid contract, the player's agent stated he would honor the IIHF ruling, yet the player is still playing in the KHL. How can anyone not be concerned about this. |

Fedotov got the start for CSKA today, looked good stopping a penalty shot in the first period using his long legs to stretch across and make the save. |

Jones on Morgan Frost contract:
"Not yet; close,” Philadelphia Flyers president of hockey operations Keith Jones told Philly Hockey Now about the contract negotiations.
“Morgan’s an important player for us in the future. That will work itself out.” |

For right now, sure it's possible. 3 years from now when Michkov is ready to come over, maybe things will be different! |

In reference to the last blog, as far as unmentioned underrated players goes, I’d give a tip of the cap to 1st-stint RJ Umberger |

That is correct, Bill... TBH though, it seemed like most all of South Jersey drinking establishments were Flyers haunts of one degree or another... I'll probably never be able to recall all the times I ran into Flyers Players/Coaches/Management in various bars throughout the years... I remember going into My Friends (Mt Ephram ave) through the rear entrance and having the door open for me by Macleish (after he had a hat trick) as a few Flyers couples were leaving after a post-game gathering... My most bittersweet run-in was when I was leaning on a drinking-shelf at the Coral Reef next to Pelle Lindbergh, and not realizing it until they gave him a shout-out; this was not much before his tragic accident... i remember admiring this pretty girl at the Coastline, and how lucky i was not to have hot on her, as it turned out she was with Dave Schultz... I think he was there with Don Sakeski... And Macleish was like everywhere it seemed. In South Jersey you couldn't have swong a cat around in a club without hitting a Flyers player. Later on I'd run into Clarke at PJ Whelihans, or The PourHouse; always social and chatting with people, like a regular guy. The Flyers owned South Jersey back in the day, and it was like normal to run into them in our outings.. But yes, Rexy's with the Cup Era teams, and Kaminsky's with the 80's guys.
Sometime I'll have to again pass on my Joe Watson post-Cup victory celly at Rexy's... and my running into Joe & Jimmy with Papa Watson coming out the back door as I was going in as the fans were going insane in the front. Some great memories being stirred up now with me here. |

Translation: Russia may want more rubles to let him go. This has been beaten to death. No one knows the future. Like it or not, he’s coming over. If he doesn’t we’ll all have bigger worries than that.

If he’s right about the 50/50 then he’ll be half as good as a broken clock. But Sanheim is not going to Edmonton.

The player doesn't want to play in Philly anymore, end of story. He signed last summer, the situation in net here has drastically changed since then. CKSA are reigning KHL champs and the Flyers are a tire fire.
For the KHL, they've basically killed the gentlemen's agreement, so now Demidov, Michkov and Nikishin's KHL contracts are officially worth as little as Fedotov's. Hope they like it when the shoe is on the other foot. |

How likely is that he REALLY wanted to go back to the very people (at least suspected to be) responsible for having him arrested, hospitalized for a convenient bout of gastritis. taken to a miitary base in northern Russia and missing a full year of hockey in the prime of his career? It seems more logical that he basically had to agree to return to CSKA before his life was TRULY made miserable. The Flyers being a 75-point team last year (a better club, actually, than they were when he signed his NHL deal) likely had zero to do with it.
All Fedotov himself said was that he just wants to play hockey again ,wherever it may be. All the words being put in his mouth came from others. He didn't even deny that the powers that be at CSKA higher-ups (still officially affiliated with the Russian dept of defense and also with the oligarchs who run the KHL) were the ones who had him arrested and conscripted last summer. He said "It doesn't really matter at this point who was behind it."
None of this has EVER been about Fedotov's choosing. He was a pawn last summer. He's a pawn now.
Just my take on it. |
