Good night and good hockey! I still remember Gene Hart and Don Earle as my first TV broadcaster for the Flyers.
A few of my friends still use Don Earle’s slip of the lip “ he hit the F***in post” while watching any game. I believe that slip happened on a radio broadcast during a Bruins game. The silly things us old men remember😀

Bill thanks for your excellent work!!

Cates scored 5 goals in that game. Currently the leading scorer in DBL

Gene Hart and Bob Taylor doing the Flyers games. Ah. Good memories.

Possibly the most unimpressive between the legs goals I’ve seen

Because nobody plays a lick of D and there's all sorts of time and space to almost nonchalantly make plays. Summer hockey galore.

Thanks Bill.

I remember Stu Nahan (Captain Philadelphia) as play-by-play and Gene as color. And if I remember correctly, games (maybe only some) would start broadcasting at the start of the third period.

So far Briere has moved out Provy and TDA from the defense. Any predictions for our D pairings? Broad Street Buzz predicts the pairings as:

Risto-Sanheim,
York-Walker
Seeler-Attard.

I think that was the next pairing. I remember thinking it so cool that he was just playing on the team and now I’m hearing his opinions on the game. Great memories!!

Wouldn't be surprised if Sanheim is moved before camp.

Funny how the story gets passed around. I thought it was Gene Hart, and that he said “ Ohhhhh… he fu@kin scored”!!

Doesn’t matter. It’s the silly things we remember, along w being an incredible announcer/broadcaster.
That’s when hockey was hockey!!

I kind of feel bad for TDA. He had a really good year for Carolina and seemed to put his behavior issues behind him. He seemed genuinely excited to come the team he followed as a kid. Gets a great 2 year contract. He sure behaved like a good guy here. Always seemed to say the right things in interviews. I found him to be surprisingly likeable. He was expected to be what he’s not, on a bad team, and predictably preformed poorly. Even after landing on Tort’s poop-list he responded professionally. Can’t say he didn’t try. Oh well, I guess he still gets the $10 mil consolation prize.

For anyone that didn't get a chance to hear Gene Hart call a game live.... man, what a broadcaster.

Who would've thought the Broad Street Bullies announcer would bring such class and vocabulary to us savages of 70s Philly? Lmao, "whirling dervish." Imagine trying to figure out what the hell he was talking about before you could Google that...

Ugh, Risto or Sanheim will be exposed. Or both. 😁

Would Barry Hanrahan be the one who should’ve known the rules related to trading TDA?

100%....Staal was playing 17-20 minutes a night for Florida in the playoffs on their 2nd pairing. Torts will lean on him alot here. Same with Seeler who played a career high 77 games last season for Tortorella. The questions will surround Walker and how does Sanheim and RR hold up as the number 1 pair vs top opposition now.

I’m a little concerned with the defensive depth and I’m sure Danny is too. If they want to be competitive this season, and according to Briere they do, I’d look to bring in another veteran D man.

Injuries will happen but they are only one injury on defense away from a youngster having to be exposed to the NHL.

the 3rd period only calls were on radio, sometimes if the game was going slow due to penalties, you'd get the last couple minutes of the 2nd period if you were lucky, but that was a looooong time ago

also, stu was the best before he decided to go hollywood

Bob Taylor played only 40+ games in the NHL and rolled that into a 40+ year career as a hockey broadcaster. Very shrewd move on his part to latch on with Tampa early on.
